After surfing around, I find that the following looks very much as though it is what is required to be applied/carried out on my T5 twin turbo diesel 7 speed DSG to fix (in part, if not completely) the acceleration lag issue as described above.
        Technichal Service Bulletin TB-35-11-01

        TB-35-11-01
        NHTSA ID #: 10041250
        Bulletin Date: Mon, 06/06/2011
        Failing Component(s):
013000 STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)
        103000 POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
        Summary:
VOLKSWAGEN: THE GEAR BOX HAS A MOMENTARILY DELAY WHILE ACCELERATING. *RM

What I am asking here is: has anyone out there had this applied to their DSG equipped VW (any model!)?
It applies to the following ... VW EOS, GOLF, GTI, JETTA, JETTA SPORTWAGEN, R32, ROUTAN, TIGUAN & TOUAREG HYBRID
And I strongly feel that it will apply to just about any VW with a DSG transmission.
        Comments, please...

Greymad, is there any way you can determine the software version of your dsg and then match that with what it should be post upgrade? In my discussions with the comm. sales manager of a local VW dealer he did state that there was an upgrade which has specifically fixed this issue because it was something I raised when I joked and said could he order me a MY13 T5GP with the Amorok's auto and I'd sign now.

Where should I look after I lift the bonnet?
Other than the TB-35-11-01 correction, there is also upgrade 37G2 which seems to deal also with the "dry" DSG lag/hesitation.
See my last post in the Golf section of VW Watercooled.
Thanks for taking an interest in my problem - I suspect there are many of us out there in the same frustrated state.
In every other respect I'm rapt with the DSG, but as it is it's potentially dangerous.

Hopefully the dealer could answer that and possibly with some kind help from a (local to you) forum member that can hook up their vagcom (?? I'm ignorant of this software) also to verify. I know it's a major pain and I guess as with PC's not all upgrades actually take place thanks to Windows.

I've got an interest in this because I'm looking at eventually replacing my van and could have the prospect of staff needing to drive it (as little as possible If I can, lol) and it's the occassional driver that will be caught out moreso.

I have scans from VCDS. This is the auto trans one... cant really tell anything about the software versions.

Thanks Luke, wonder if "revision" refers to software version.

Sorry to do this to you but you're dealing with a greybeard here ... "Vagcom" means nothing to me, and what should I be learning from the above gobbledygook (that's pretty much what it is to me - again, sorry...).
I rang $olitaire and spoke to "the man" who actually gets to work on the cars and guess what - he's never heard of a "dry" 7speed DSG with a problem here in Oz (of any sort? I can't believe it!). This, despite all the similar sounding problems which have occurred in USA.
Anyway, it's booked for him to test drive it (15th June - they're obviously very busy!) so I wait with bated breath and in the hope that I won't in the meantime be T-boned at an intersection or roundabout.
Gripping stuff, all this (not). Thanks again for your replies, guys

I'll check my recent VAGCOM scans to compare with yours later today.
When my software was updated, the only remarks about it on the invoice are as follows:

Vagcom (?), or whatver now used is the software you can obtain and then connect say a laptop to your car to read/check/make a whole range of changes etc as a dealer would. A simple one would say be logging in to change your door locking sequence to open driver's door on one press and all doors after 2 presses of the key remote fob ..etc...I can tell you the Commercial Sales manager at Barloworld VW Bayside Moorabbin (Vic) and the service guys at Burwins VW also have discussed the dsg software update for lag with me and I don't even own a dsg T5. One trick I finally learned to overcome the lag was actually try and take-off earlier then I would normally think I had to, sounds strange/confusing and not how it should be for ease of driving however it's like I had to prempt the dsg and act a split second earlier then I would in the conventional auto of my T5. Must say getting back into my T5 seemed less stressful and possibly after longer term ownership it would become second nature...or not

Sounds like more trouble than its worth , why should owners have to adapt to an auto that by the sounds of it has a problem that millions of $$$$ worth of developement and testing did not show up or was it just ignored once released Hmmmm . I have only experienced a DSG once in a Skoda hire car I honestly thought I had completly lost the ability to drive a conventional car as opposed to a heavier van as this thing lurched off from stop making a smooth flow in low speed traffic a nightmare . Picture this , taking of with a lurch then having to brake to stop before hitting the car in front .

I agree owners shouldn't have to adapt at all unless they're driving a 16speed b-double, lol. As to your mental picture, I laughingly see it all the time at school pick up...

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the next model T6 because I'd say the benefits of switching from conventional auto to 7sp dsg has most likely been an improvement on the reliability/warranty side for VW which would be an important factor in powertrain choices. I'm speculating here: Another thing is meeting euroVI (& future targets) which could have a bearing on which type of transmission is married to future engines to best meet emission targets on top of the constant need to lower fuel consumption. It's a safe bet dsg always beats other auto's in the fuel economy war. So product requirement, cost of transmission, durability/warranty costs, fuel economy/emission benefits and hopefully driving satisfaction are the parameters to be considered (in my novice's opinion). Which factors have greater importance by the product development and marketing teams is the question. When some of us get to sample the Amarok 8spd auto it will be interesting and food for thought in what could be in T5's!

Thanks for the Vagcom (or whatever) enlightenment... and as to adapting: I adapt pretty damn well to my 1909 Sizaire Naudin & my 1909 IHC Autobuggy but the good old DSG7 has had me into heart attack territory on more than one occasion.
I'll post back after I've had $olitaire check it out again - and this time, I'll be staying with the car and the "test" driver, making sure they find themselves a roundabout or busy piece of traffic into which they have to slot. I might have to close my eyes while it happens, though

Good idea stay with the mechanic , a few years ago a friend of mine bought a T5 manual dual cab to tow his custom built trailer he had trouble just getting the thing to start from the bottom of a hill , the weight was well within VW limits and when he went to a dealer the service manager drove it by himself and told my firend that it was fine . When he challenged the service manager to take him with him on a second drive he noted and saw the manager slip the clutch as it was the only way he could get it to go up the hill . End result VW bought the car back from him and also paid the costs of the conversions he had also done to the T5 for the towing setup . Since then I have seen adds in the papers for dual cabs for sale with a disclaimer on the towing capacity , I wonder if VW revised their specs ????
