  • 23H8 Recall?

Does anyone have any info on what this actually is all about?

It's listed on the invoice as:

    Complaint: 23H8 RECALL
    Cause: ECU UPDATE
    Remedy/Rectification: CARRIED OUT RECALL

When I picked it up the girl on the counter didn't seem to know what it actually was about... so here we are. Anyone have any details on what it actually is??

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

We had 23H8 Service Campaign written on ours in the top section and at the bottom in the description section it says RECALL CODE LABEL against the same job number.

When I called the service department this afternoon they were next to useless, he just said it wasn't a recall but was a software update Volskwagen had issued but couldn't tell me what it was for. He said when they come in they don't get told what they're for but to just put them onto all cars when they come in for their next service.
I find it really hard to believe that someone working in the service department wouldn't know what was in it.

My wife reckons the Multivan is running smoother when accelerating from a stopped position. I think it might be the DSG software upgrade that someone else on the forum spoke about when they took their Multivan in for a service a month or so ago.

I'd like someone who works in the industry to give us the low down on what was really done in the software update.

I thought the same thing about the DSG for the same reasons... would be nice to know exactly what was updated.

It engine ECU update. Havent read it in awhile but pretty sure its to do with the DPF regen process and a couple of other things.

          ^ Spot on.

The paperwork associated with the campaign that the technician receives is very vague. May alleviate some of the EGR failures in the 132kw engines, too.

            What's a EGR failure?

I took the 132kw for a run to the shops and it was noticeable smoother in acceleration and wasn't as slow from a stopped position. Not sure what they did but the multivan is driving better. Hope it's not my imagination

The exhaust gas recirculation valve is known to fail. The car will run, albeit poorly, with the check engine light on.

There should be a silver label on the car around the dirver's door area, in the jamb maybe, with '23H8', the date, and the dealer code handwritten on it.

Translated this from a German T5 forum.

It should fix problems with the diesel particulate filter / regeneration process.

                      Recall Code 23H8

Just had the 132Kw serviced and asked the same question. All I got out of them was that it is to do with the DSG transmission. I had asked the workshop manager when I checked the vehicle in for first service if the delay off the mark was normal as it seemed to me to be more than I expected. He said it drove normally but this was before the 23H8 bit was done.
I do think it is a little better but wondered if it was just my imagination. Would love to get something authoritive on it too.
                      cheers all

As mentioned, it's to do with the DPF regenerating under revised parameters.

I can believe that, as our 132kw van has had it, and it has made bugger all difference to the acceleration lag issue, which is still bloody dangerous.

I believe there is a separate campaign or re-flash for the DSG to improve its responsiveness.

Doesn,t it seem strange to owners of DSG equiped vans that with all the multi millions of $ spent by VW in developing the DSG and if I,m not mistaken they also spent nearly 7 years in developement to get it to where it is today that they fit it and it has a suspect operation ???? . What kind of people test drive these in pre production or is it something that has arisen after manufactures release and we the consumer have had to ask for a fix to something that is not operating as it should , as some have stated a very dangerous situation can occur ? this is not just related to VW vans its been well documented in the US with large recalls for problems for Golfs and Amaroks whose DSG does not work in off road situations with total failures in some cases .
