Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I like the Amarok as a vehicle for its use but I need VANS !!!!!for work and play . As I have said before some technology is dumb , for example for the last two weeks the engine warning light has been on and as usual I ignore it as the van is running as it should . Today I figured out why it had come on , 2 litre petrol T5,s are designed to run on fuel minimum 91to 95 RON , as I had filled it twice with regular unleaded 91 Ron the sensor has a mikey flip and decides that the fuel RON is not up to its liking and decides to upset me by lighting up the dash with a miserable engine warning light . If as the lemmings would do I would be poorer as the book tells you to take it to VW for check . Yeh right how much would they charge me for spending no time with a laptop diagnosing the problem and then tell me the knock sensor or some other gadget decides to trip the computer and could it have told me that the fuel RON was not up to par ????? maybe maybe not , any way as I suspected I filled up today with 91-95 RON and hey presto light has gone out . Here is a good idea for the future population why do we have to have so many different RON levels if manufacturers got their heads out of the sand why not build all engines that would run on one level RON only . Then fuel companies would not rip us off with all the variations , please at the pump today 91 Ron $1.51- 91-95 $1.61- premium $1.65 Don,t start me on Diesel 8 years ago when diesels were in a minority it was around $1.05 now today with the higher numbers of diesels you guessed it diesel $1.61 there is no justice in the world . I sometimes wonder if the car companies and the fuel companies are sleeping together ?????. Thats it I ,ll take another does of Xanax and go and find a dark corner to relax in . Howard

      fuse question

We just bought a 2010 multivan highline and i olso have problems with the lighter fuse. I looked at all your posts and there are several spots thet my fuse diagram has to be. But it is not.... And I have no idea which fuse is the lighter one . I checked all the blue ones and they seem to b ok. Under my front seat is a 6 disc cd changer but no fuses or diagrams?
any suggestions or a possible trip to the dealer....

      Cheers.

If your dealers is not very far from you, it's probably faster option and when you're there ask them for the fuse diagram and the fuse boxes location.

here is one for the newbies the fuse box mentioned under the bonnet is a pig to get to , first you need to remove the battery then the plastic dividers then unbolt the steel battery support plate 4 x 12ml bolts then remove 8 yes 8 more screws that hold the "E" box cover [fuse box] and then you find the fuses whew ! .Now will admit here that these would probably not be the ones ever likely to blow thank goodness .

I have a 2011 T5 LWB 132kW DSG 4motion ex-NSW ambulance. The left parking light is out (little bulb in headlight, and rear left parking/running light, and subsequently trailer running lights because they pick up power from the left rear light...) I checked all my fuses, as well as the bulbs. I have tried unsuccessfully to find diagrams and listed locations but I can't see the left parking/running light... I scoured your diagrams and lists Transporter, but I can't see it. Frustration is building...! Help!

Have you see this post it has all the fuse locations as VW seem to be under the impression that we can no longer fix our own fuses so they will not put a fuse card in the vans today http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...tml#post482586

I've got a 2011 Transporter, first week the cig lighter fuse blew. VW advised they don't supply fuse locations. No explanation as to why. Turns out its under the passenger seat, i used this forum to find the location.
I'm pretty sure it is so that you give VW the work to replace a 10 cent part that they charge $4 for (plus 87.20 labor)

Apparently it's because they don't want people to fit the wrong amp fuse in case of a further problem , it's stupid and makes no sense . If you read the owners manual it told us that "due to ongoing development of the van " no fuse locations are available at the time of printing the books . Well if that's the case then they should supply one after they have sorted it out , I am still giving my dealer grief about the charts not being available .

From the repairer point of view, it makes a sense to me.
How would you like repairing the sunroof if someone who didn't have a clue at all were trying to fix it, stuffed it up even more and then brought the car to you to repair it under the warranty?

When did changing a fuse become so complicated ?

Yes I agree up to a point , I do get people who try and do their own repair but if the roof was in warranty and was fitted by us and they break something then that is not covered under warranty and we would charge for it . I suppose some people would want to replace a fuse I know I certainly would do the job but naturally if the same value fuse blew again then if it was under warranty I would expect the dealer to sort it out . But if its out of warranty I would do my best to find the problem myself , I am a bit of a fix it myself sort of guy . The people in my industry I hate the most are those who ring me up and say they have sealed the roof closed because it was leaking and they seal it with silicone and then they want me to fix it . Most times a simple clearing of the drain tubes will fix the problem but when they use silicone I have to politely tell them its virtually all over as silicone cannot be removed with causing massive damage to the paint and seals . So your example is very valid .

So... They trust you to change a wheel ( sure they do, they even hide a jack in there somewhere) but don't trust you to change a fuse !What a load of crap VW feed us. They(VW) know how to build a car, but have no idea about customer service. And 120 fuses.... sheeeeesh

Could you be a little more specific when you say no clock ? a lot of the fuses share their circuits with other functions . You could also check this page a lovely forum member was good enough to put a full list up http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...tml#post482586

Thank you, had just used this thread to replace two of the blue 15A fuses under passenger seat to get lighter and back seat auxiliary working again
