  • Lowering of T5 (MY11) Transporter

    Hi All

So my new 2.0TT Transporter should be with me in the not too distant future (Still waiting for some optional parts to arrive). Have been driving around another Transporter (103 DSG) & have realised just how high the thing is! - Can only just get into parking lots etc.

Have been looking for options in regards to lowering the sucker, but all I've been able to find is an Eibach kit that lowers it 30mm. I'm guessing that lowering of Vans isn't common practice, but I'm hoping someone may be able to give me a few more options

    Cheers!

I just lowered our multivan on KW V1's and have it currently at 50% adjustment (total adjustment 60mm).

This drop has been fantastic for both handling and looks, however, you will have a bit harsher ride but playing with tyre pressure can adapt that too.

I am planning on dropping it about another 15-20mm in the not too distant future.

You can purchase them through TPR Engineering, as I did, with Australian warranty.

We had the same issue with our T5 when bought new back in 2004 -5 I was concerned it was to tall for some car parks so I took it to Kings Springs on the Gold Coast . Now whilst they did a good job of dropping it around 40-50 ml the end ride and handling is okay but I didn,t change the shocks and it shows as at speed on some country roads if you hit a depression in the tarmac or a small pot hole it will hit the front bump stops with a decent thud . At the time the T5 had only been out for a couple of months and there were not many alternatives available I have been meaning to get some alternative shocks which might help . But my sons older T4 I bought a lowering kit from England for around $600 and wow what a difference it made to his van never bottoms out and rides real sweet , if I wasn,t such a tight arse I would lash out on something better for the T5 but its near time for an upgrade so I won,t worry about it .Howard

I have a set of these in a container somewhere on the high seas.

ULTRA LOW SPRINGS - TRANSPORTER T5 - Merseyspeed.co.uk - (Alloy Wheels :: Body Styling :: Air Filters :: Exhausts :: Car Conversions :: Diesel Chips :: Much Much More !!):

Once fitted I will put some pictures up for all to see.

I have a few friends in the UK with them and they seem impressed for money.

If you look on the web site there is lots of T5 bits to wet your taste buds.

Will be interested to see what you think when they arrive.

Have obtained pricing for the KW v1 coil overs (Thanks mikinoz for the contact!) & they are looking most good. Only thing that will be hard to get passed the boss is that it's double the price of getting Eibachs... Mind you, you can lower it much more & from the sounds of it the handling would be a vast improvement over standard which isn't a bad thing

Springs are cheap. Springs and matched dampers are not much less than coils.

I'm weighing up swaybar upgrades down the track.

What diameter wheels will you be running?

              Hi
              '
Just ordered a set of JOM coilovers from Germany for my 06 T5 thought about getting the KW V1 but at this point a bit rich compared with the JOM's ($645.). I lowered my springs 50mm and my struts gave way silly thing to do without replacing the struts, anyway hope they will be fine as there are no bad reports written up as yet. Will let all know when I get them.

The JOM will work, but from the research I've done the ride is a bit less refined than the short shock/spring option or KW. Interested to hear what you find one they are installed.

But for that money what the heck.

But on a new T5.5 I'd probably pay the proper money. I mean 650 coils on a 50$k+ car is probably a bit out of alignment.

original OEM would set you back around $800 from VW on a 50$k van so 650 not far off.

The multivan is stock at 1970mm so it would take a full 70mm to get under 1.9M. I wouldn't have thought it would make any real difference for *most* carparks since you're not getting down under the 1.9M notch anyway.

Sure that little bit extra might make me feel more comfortable in 2.0M carparks, as it is I usually try to avoid them unless they are 2.1M+

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                      ^^^

                      True true.

As I've mentioned in another thread, sometimes it comes down to the actual entrance into the car park... For example, I went into a carpark that was 1.8m in my Caddy which was generally no issue. BUT due to the angle & the speed hump at the entrance I still managed to clip the roof - No damage though.

So even just gaining that extra say 30-40mm of clearance would be helpful, just to be on the safe side.

Guessing they would be the same for SWB vs. LWB?

If so & your keen on selling, I might take them off your hands

Although I really want to go coil overs, I'm finding it hard to justify considering my weekend toy doesn't even have them

So I lowered the front a bit more on the weekend, and think that the combination of ultra drop (top of tyre to guard is 20mm), 255 tyres on 8" rims, and my other half complaining about the rubbing on not quite full lock means it may have to get raised back up a bit.

It is more work to adjust the rear, as you need to disconnect the shock which I did not have time for so will do that next weekend.
