Good news is by the time I'm ready to upgrade again in about 3 years the TSI and DSG will be well and truly tested and no doubt there will be plenty of tuning options available!
A TSI/7spd DSG (550NM rated) combo have been available in the Tiguans for over a year now, with no more than the usual rate of DSG issues ... in fact only a few know so far, so much better than the 6spd found in the Golfs etc, so no need to wait 3yrs.

I'd prefer a manual to be honest, but will live with the TSI/DSG combo reasonably happily .....

That's good to know, how about the TSI motors with the extra power added, any issues?

Okay Sharkie my mistake I looked back at the posting and assumed you were quoting figures on a diesel spec , I have to be honest all the figures being posted have me in a spin jeez why dont they just fit one engine to all models . H,mmmmm lets see 8 litres with 1000plus nm coupled to a 20 speed box that should do it . I am afraid I don,t always get this performance thing in cars these days , I have seen the example of GMH and HSV where every year they add a few more kw to the engines with increaesd capacity , the Holden fans just lap it up to try and outdo their neighbours and Ford owners . My main concern with some of this performance thing is this , when HSV released their new models things that frightened me was that one tyre to keep the car in within specs was around $600 each brake pads were around $1400 a set , see my problem with all this performance is that one day down the track these screamers will end up in car yards for sale at a price around the budget of an 17 -18 year old and these kids will not be able to afford the price of the keeping the car as it was built there fore putting young guys at risk of driving a high performance car with less that satisfactory ability to stop and steer I am sure you know what I mean . Howard . PS I wont add any more I think I,ve said enough .
