  • New Comfortline or Used Highline?

    G'day,

Just a quick question to gauge which way you would go...I am Interested to hear what the experts have to say.

Would you spend $50k on a brand new MY11 103kw Comfortline or would you spend similar money on a 3 year old Highline with the leather, electric doors etc?

Do you go for new or used with better kit on it?

Be very Interested to hear everyone's opinions.....

    Thanks

Further to my reply by message, there is the consideration of warranty, and the higher priced new model comes with a 3 year 100,000km warranty I assume, which takes away some stress, whereas the 2006 model is already nearly 5 years old so some faults will be beginning to show up and you will only have a limited warranty. All of these vans are quite costly to own in terms of servicing costs, but the amazing road performance makes this worthwhile.

New car is a new car and as Brian said you would have 3 Years warranty. It is so much nicer when you buy new and don't have to spend money on worn out tyres, brakes and so on.

        Brian & Transporter,

Appreciate your comments...the warranty side of things is obviously a big plus point. How much depreciation is there in a new van once it leaves the forecourt? I'm assuming it's minimal based on the prices people are looking for in the used models?

My only other concern on new is the fact there's a wait.....and I want to get my hands on one NOW!

Thanks for your comments and assistance.

Electric doors look cool, but sound expensive if they break, I was sorely tempted by leather, but was told I could get it fitted after the fact by the dealer for a couple of grand or so if I really wanted. In my mind I figured rather than cut up perfectly good cloth I could live with it in all it's new glory until I got bored of it or it started to wear, then get new seats all over again with new leather

In the end we got the Comfortline and haven't looked back.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I bought new, and haven't looked back, whilst the wait may seem long, the new my11 van is a perfect blend of vw car and commercial vehicle, that ticks all the boxes for comfort, space and modern tech gizmos. For 50 grand, you'll get a comfort line on the road with lots of extras, also, the fuel economy of the new vans is better than previous models, and the new dag gearbox, second to none.

New... No question abt that for me. Expecting my MY11 in Mar/Apr that's with order placed arnd end Nov. Mine is pretty customized but if u are not particular then suggest u ring arnd as dealers have various configurations available for immediate drive away.

                Seafarer, thanks for this Info.

May I ask where you purchased, what customised spec you got and what $'s you had to part with?

I quite like the look of the Toffee but have not seen it in the flesh. There seems to be some price variations around the dealers at the present time.

There is a place in NSW - Trivetts I believe who seem to have the broadest range of availability, does anyone know of anywhere in Brisbane or SE Qld that has a decent range? I've not found anything thus far.

                Cheers

I'd go new (well I did actually) for the warranty, the new engines and the DSG gearbox.

Tick a few boxes and the price quickly goes skyhigh. Ours was a special order and took 6 months to arrive, recommended drive-away of $65K, on the road for us much much much less ... (so much less that the dealer swore me to silence .....)

Also, based in Brisbane, but purchased in Canberra !!!!

If your'e not too fussy about specs & colour, I'd look at any stock anybody has ..... for us the most brilliant options was the Premium Bluetooth and the Foglights .... and the RCD510 I fitted myself ... ... but other people would have other wants ....

                    gordymatt, definately go new
You need to consider the old models had a true auto box in them, so good for 100,000 to 150,000 ks

New models, dsg, are a manual box, just change automatically
Apart from the electronics, the things are bullet proof

And WHEN the auto goes in the older models, you part with around $7,500
Makes the new models the better bet

Gordymatt ... I shopped around Brissy. Got a great price from Ian Bottcher at Ipswich but unfortunately was going to be a very long wait for my custom spec. Crick's at Maroochydore came to the rescue - pretty much matched the price but were offering me a dealer spec car that was about to be built. They did a quick change on the config on the one already in the system. Saved me 2-3 months of the wait.

I see your are at Manly also - keep your eye out for a Black CC arriving in about 8 weeks.

My mind is made up, I will most definitely buy new. Thanks to Brian and everyone on here who have helped and more thanks to Seafarer for the heads up about corporate pricing... Does anyone else have any knowledge on the VW corporate pricing structure. I have it on good authority that an 18% discount is achievable if you play hard ball.

Does anyone know any other dealers who are offering a cracking drive away deal on a 103kw comfortline?

                        Cheers
