  • Newby Bought a T5 Transporter....

    Howdy....

I've just traded in my 2008 Holden SS V Ute for a T5 LWB Transporter Diesel DSG in Silver.

Anyone know what brand besides Speedy and mako that do load rated rims in larger sizes? 20's or 22's?

    Cheers!

  • #2
yes I have done a search but come up with no particular brands in the larger size...

Had to say that before people just tell me to do a search....

Congratulations mate and welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure that 22" wheels will go on T5. You will have a problem with the

      speedo not correctly displaying speed.

        22" do fit on a T5

The tyres you need are 265 35 22

They cost £120 each then upwards of that in the UK

I know the cost is of no use to you but thought it might be fun to compare

Also Range Rover wheels fit straight on!

5x120 is the same as some commodores and bmws too.
          Dunno if that helps.

Does your dealer have full pricing on the T5, I only ask because you said you've ordered a DSG version which is the newly updated Transporter?

nah DSG has been around for a while on the T5

22's do fit the T5, a Mate owns a motorcycle transport company and his T5 is lowered with 22's on it but he doesn't care about load rating on that vehicle.

having the speedo out is no biggy.... not really worried about that... I just want my ride to llook unique!! hehe

Sorry mate, there is no DSG in current T5. Upgraded T5 (T5.2) will get DSG.

I’m sure it will look nice on big wheels but are you planning on telling to your insurance company about it? If you don't, you would give them the opportunity to void your claim, should you need to make one.

Also may not be legally registered, particularly if the rolling diameter is significantly different. I know it is boring and "not fun", but this sort of stuff can be really important if you are in a prang and the police and your insurers start to investigate.

On the Caddy definitely and as Transporter stated, on the T5's it's a conventional auto 6 speed with adaptive and sport shift functions...you had me excited thinking there might be pricing available on the T5.2.

Alrighty, when you said upgrade originally, I trhought you meant the new model thats coming out next year, my T5 must be a T5.2......

if my T5 that arrives in 2 weeks doesn't have DSG there will be hell to pay... the dealer will be in all types of **** thats for sure... I have a price list that says DSG given to me by dealer, a contract that says DSG and nothing says T5.2 only T5....

I used to have built up 4WD's for competition that were also my daily driver... not too worried about insurance companies!!

Look how many cars are on the roads with oversize wheels... doesn't stop the world from turning, so where's the problem??

Sorry for going off your original post however you may need to give your dealer a call asap. The reason I say this is because the two dealers I'm waiting to get quotes off, Barloworld Bayside and Burwins don't have any Aussie specs or pricing on T5.2. If your van arrives in 2 weeks when did you originally order it (I'd guess a few months ago) because I would be very surprised if it's a DSG equipped T5 and you're a lucky bugger if it is. As I have been led to believe T5.2 isn't yet released here in Oz. In the current T5, VW Australia call the auto a 6 speed Tiptronic in the downloadable spec sheet. The current T5 auto comes in 2.5L tdi's while the T5.2 will be 2.0L common rail turbo/TT with 7 speed DSG.

I'm with TT5 - any new T5 delivered in the next 2 weeks will almost certainly be pre-facelift (ie the same as the last 4 years T5s), and will have either a manual gearbox or a conventional auto gearbox (ie not a DSG). Prepare for the arguments and the "blame game" to begin at your dealer.

Wheels are easy, don't know why this keeps on coming up. Wheels from commodore, landrover defender 2,3 and 4 and bmw x5 all will fit. I know there are others out there that will fit, I just stopped bothering to look once I found a nice set of rims from a vx calais. Commodore gives you the largest option but X5 and landrover easily give you higher ratings.
Get the centres machined out to 73mm and then pick up some hub centric rings from speedys. Machining cost me $100 and the rings $20. I put some VW centre caps in just to finish it off nicely.

Saw some really slick looking 22 inch fitted to an HSV senator sell on fleabay a couple of weeks ago, If I was not already sorted I would have had a crack.

Momo.com is a good reference point to start looking.
