  • Gremlin in my Engine bay

    Hi all .
    2006 4 Motion AXE Tdi .
Scratching my head as to where to go next . Will shorten the story . Installed a replacement engine and while doing so replaced injector , glow plug looms with new ones . New cam installed also . New turbo, N75 valve , EGR delete done . Pre DPF so no issue there .
Anyway van was running like a clock . Drove really well no issues at all ( yes I see the smiles on your faces as your reading this part ) . Driving on a rough section of highway merging onto the motorway and all of a sudden I get an increasing vibration from the engine through the cabin . With no load on engine it starts and revs fine . Once in gear and load applied it starts vibrating . Have done a check of the drive shafts and they are all solid . Did an OBD check and scans came back with Camshaft position sensor code P0341 . So I checked continuity between ECU and sensor , all good . Replaced sensor with new one . No change . other errors Cylinder 5 Pump injector P1670 Electrical error in circuit also came up with Cyl 5 Misfire detected .
So I thought possibly a clip had detached from injector 5 .

ID:	1870307 cover off , you know the drill . Well all clips firmly in place and now I have no idea where to go next .

Any help, previous experience with similar or direction would be greatly appreciated .

I hate seeing the van just sitting in the garage . My skill levels are also reaching the limit .

    Cheers All

    manual/auto?
    If manual, suspect DMF?
Does it vibe in gear/out of gear?

did you use locking tools for the cam timing?

      Hi rebuild ,

Yes Manual , Brand new DMF too . Yes locking tools used on camshaft replacement .

It seems to build its vibration . accelerator off it dies off then when applying pedal it starts again to increase .

Only a suggestion but check all the vacuum pipes , we had turbo replaced some years ago and it almost did the same thing we found a small split in one of the vacuum tubes causing the engine to sort of beak down under load .

This could be cam-to-crank timing just slightly off – P0341 can show up even with locking tools if there's minute misalignment. Second possibility: actual issue with injector 5 – check loom, plug and unit injector resistance.

Had same vibe – idled perfect, shook like mad under load. Turned out my injector was slightly loose in the bore
