  • Transporter aftermarket seat

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has a aftermarket 3 seat bench in the back of their transporter and could take some photos of the mounting bolts for me?
move got a ‘Wilshire’ seat in mine, missing bolts to refit. Looks like a tech safe type seat, forward flipping type.

    cheers

    Hi Outcastfly,

If it's of any help, these are the 'mushroom bolts' I used to install a VWT4 single seat in the back of my van.

As per every upgrade project, bought more than I needed!

If the seat is out of another van or later model the type of bolts is very important . They must be High Tensile but I can,t remember what size as I used to fit and approve seats 20 odd years ago in my old business . If the seat is going into a rear area where there are no mounting points in the floor from factory then special size reinforcing plates have to be under the underside of the floor for each bolt . Again from memory I think the size is 3750 sq mm about 3 x 2 inches per bolt . What you have to remember is that if seat bolts are attached to the actual seat frame itself then the bolts holding the seat MUST be a certain size with correct reinforcing plates . I would suggest that you contact one of the places near you that specialise in fitting and certifying extra seats as you will need a certificate before you can re register the van with the extra people on board . Things like liability for any injury claim are part of the certification , without it you could be liable for millions of dollars if someone is injured or killed .
