I just saw a Multivan with a Yokahama Geolander HT/S tires fitted. They looked good but owner was not around to ask questions. Funnily enough they are the same tyre the shop guy suggested as a possible replacement.

I had these fitted on Monday to some factory 17' steel rims which have replaced the 16' alloys
Nice quite ride too and eating up the Klms so far. Probably done 100 ks since monday

17"s
Hi Tombi,
I always reckoned the 17" steels looked better than my std 16"s. Can I ask where you got them, and price (PM if preferred). I can't complain about my OEM Michelins. 50K and still going strong, but I'll probably be looking for a change in the next year or so.
And Tornado,
What's the story with the 'slight shredding'. I have something similar happening on mine (doesn't seem to have affected the life though). I was blaming it on my Cape Yorke trip (lots of fast gravel roads), although I didn't notice it till a good while later. Maybe it IS a tyre fault. Have you done a lot of gravel road/off-road travel?

Yeah same here Brian, something about the 17 steel rims. I bought the rims from a friend who had bought them for the tyres alone. He has a 2005 (i think) T5 and was complaining about the high cost of the Michelins and was lucky enough to find a good set of 17" rims with tyres.
IThey cost me $60.00 per rim.
Mind you I did see a set of 4 on ebay in June.I didn't bid at the time, cos I didn't have a T5.

Remember the michelins on older cars where they had an outer lip for this reason (and wall strength). Bring them back I say.

I agree with you. I forgot to ask you from your earlier post what Dunlop OEM tyres your Multivan came with?

Anyone that is looking for a 18' tyre for a T5 Transporter knows that a load rated tyre in the right size is hard to find.
I have found a Hankook XQ Opitmo tyre with a 900kg / 104 load rating.
Size 245/50/18. Odd size apparently. 702mm high I think. The stock T5 215/65/16 on alloy wheels is 686mm high
Thinking of using them with a 18' BMW X5 wheel. Also heavy load rated.
Looking for some feedback, anyone used this size yet?
See link for details.

I have these wheels fitted to my T5 and you cannot touch a thing without causing damage.
This is why I want to change mine and wish to go to 18's without loss of load rating.

Seem near impossible to find yhe exact match when google searching - do not feature much on the English sites, but pop up on some European sites.
The SP LT30 seems more common.
Is this a little odd for an OEM tyre?

Anyone tried TOYO HO8's? --> 225/70/R15
I've been using them on my T4 syncro for 5+ years and I love them.
No punctures, LONG lasting - 80 K +
They just fit the wheel arches and they're great in the sand...
And they're cheaper than the others.
Am about to sign up for the T5.2 --> can't wait
Not sure what size tyre to get for this... TOYO HO8 do a 235/65/R16
Need to work out how wide and big I can goVW Transporter MY10 132kw BiT LWB 4Motion DiffLock
