2007 T5 - How do I replace the passenger door window?

Hi,

I have to replace the passenger door window on my 07 T5 (electric windows)
I'm planning on trying to get a new piece of glass from the wreckers and I'm looking for any info on how to replace the glass?
I already know how to remove the door card and have done this before to install speakers and sound deadening.
I just looking for tips and advice on how to:

• Remove old broken glass (will this be inside the door frame?
• How to remove the glass from the wrecked vehicle?
• Will any rubber seals, etc need to be removed from either my van or the wrecked one?
• How do I slide the new glass in? I assume from the outside of the van?
• Can I do this job by myself or does it require 2 people?
• Should I get any other special tools?

I'm also considering just getting the glass from a wreckers and letting a mechanic do it if anyone has any recommendations for someone in east/north Melbourne I'd be happy to hear it.

You will need to remove up to the assembly carrier bit.

The door glass is held by two rubberised clamps only, 10mm hex head, at the bottom of the glass.
To get the glass out of a wrecked vehicle(and yours) would require the glass to be lowered to the access points for the clamps.
Edit - Actually thinking on this, if you can't remove the glass with the clamps at the access points, you may need to drop the glass further, with the clamps loose and pushing down on the glass as you lower it.
I haven't replaced a glass myself, so salt and all that.....

Would be easier on a regular manual window winder type, i think, especially in a wreckers yard. If these were even an option in Aus, don't know.

AFAIK, you shouldn't need any seals or other bits.Should be able to be done by one person.
With the door glass out on your van, DO NOT be tempted at any point to use the electric up/down controls.Without any load(weight) the clamps take off very fast.

From memory you need first to remove the door trim itself , the actual regulator is one complete metal part which is bolted to the inner door frame . Once you can get to the clamps and remove all the broken glass , a new one can be fitted through the outer frame itself you need to turn it sideways and then as you rotate it line it up with the two guides each end front and back . Once you get it in the guides lower it slowly by hand until it rests in the clamps , as Rebuild says do not operate the electric winder with no glass . I have replaced a couple of regulators in fact I have a whole complete one at home that I didn,t need , when the regulator is changed I tape the glass up at the very top with some strips of gaffer tape saves it dropping suddenly into the door itself while changing the regulator . The new window is now in. It was actually a very simple job.

It also took awhile to remove ALL broken glass from the channels and the clamps, but it’s perfect now.
