T5 multivan headlining removal

Hey guys,

Having a few issues with the multivan.

1. The air isn't really coming out of the overhead ducts so I took the back panel off and the ducting wasn't connected. Easy fix. Tried it a bit more air comes through.

2. How do I remove the upper tailgate trim to run a reverse camera?

3. Trying to get into the headlining to see if there's another reason why it doesn't blow as much and I'm stuck.

How do I remove the vent/light assembly and how do I remove the stupid dog barrier holders???

I've already removed the torx bolt, but what do I do from there?

Right. Managed to get the rear unit out, but not the front. Leaving them in and trying to drop the whole headlining... Once I work out how to get the brackets off!

Those bloody roof lights are a pain to remove when a bulb blows, although I don't know that you need to get them out to take the lining down, something I haven't done so can't help.


But, word of advice when doing a reverse cam install. The assembly that holds the number plate lights/handle has a couple of screws that hold it in place. I've noticed that over time these come loose and cause the tailgate to rattle when closed or driving. I higly recommend a little blue locktite to help them stay in place while you've got it all apart. To be fair, most bolts like those ones could do with a little blue loctite when your putting them back in.

Going to paint the plastics, so might have to see if they come out after trying to pull the headlining.

If your painting plastics make sure you clean them within an inch of their lives before hand and use the specific paint for plastic .

I took these out on the weekend to fit a backing for my blinds.
There is another torx under the push in plug. I used a small screw driver and small hammer to wedge it out . And then pliers to pull out the rest of the way.
You end up with a small mark after , but can’t help it.
Sorry have not pulled out fan assemblies.

The overhead vent assemblies are removed the same way a lot of vw plastics are - pry gently around the edges with plastic tools, removing them by their tabs. The rear fits the same as the front, some force is required to remove, just try not to break the locating tabs.

Bloody hard to do on your own.. But done. Only to find the flap that diverts the air returns to side vents on default. Will have to bodgie one thing in the gear to stop it opening.
