Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I agree about the engine bit - now another project I thought of is a double cab with an extra long tray, and another lazy axle at the rear for my car carrier!

In a T4 or T5 that option would be relatively easy. A simple chassis extension using the rear frame from another DOKA parked on the back of the existing rear axle....

But in a splitty......that's just ART.

thats a damn good idea. initial cost would obviously be large but fuel consuption on travel would be great when carting the car around, especially going interstate. in the long run would definitely end up saving you money. not to mention a double cab VW car carrier would be the greatest thing ever!! first in Oz i would imagine.

        Cheers,
        Rhys

Did my first towing trip on the weekend, towing my Mates Porsche race car & trailer from Brisbane to Warwick. Towed it with ease (combined weight about 1950 kg's) with a couple of sets of wheels & tyres in the truck.

Pulled up the Warwick range with ease, alternating between 3rd & 4th which was great.

P.S. I fitted a trailer brake controller, so I now know which of the 4 wires on the brake light switch to connect to if anyone gets stuck!

Truck still only has < 1500km's on it & is slowly loosening up!

          Post pics soon

                  Thanks Pierre !

The trailer is pretty nice, its also my mates, its one of those US imports that has this whole tilt / slide mechanism (like a tilt tray tow truck) - its a bit of overkill & the price is way overkill (about 13k), but it tows really nice.

Good thing is I get to Borrow it to go to Bathurst in December!

                    4Motion Double Cab

Took one of these baby's for a test drive just to get the feel of it as I'm in the market for a 4Motion Crewvan and wanted to see how they drove and whether I could cope with a manual again...

Gee whiz they pull like a train don't they. This one only had 90km on it so I guess it would loosen up a bit. I like the fact that at 60km/h in 4th gear, you are sitting right on top of the torque peak. The short 1st gear caught me out a bit though.

Now I just have to get a good trade in on my Pathfinder. Dealer offered me a pittance saying "well nobody wants the 4 litre petrol ones now".

I think I'll get one built as I would really like a sliding door on the drivers side and the trip computer and since its so close to the end of the year try to get an 09 compliance too.

                    Regards,

                    Jamie

                      Jamie,

You will love it, I take it by choice over the GTI cruising at the moment - the ride is fantastic (and about 700% better than my old T4!)
