We may have another option soon,

I've always preferred the Toyota, as ive had less issue with them.

But the extra width and length of the new model look good for a camper, i'd like to see us get a factory 4x4 option

With the change in the front, it could be possible to put seat swivels in this new model

While it’s ok to have all possible airbags and be a leader in a passive safety, I hope they’ve changed chassis and suspension set up to improve an active safety as well.

From the user point of view Toyota parts are as expensive as VW and many others. The brakes on a current Hiace don’t last and are very expensive with the brake discs being fitted from the wrong side, the replacement is labor intensive compare to VW.

The 6speed Aisin auto is probably the same as in the earlier T5 and hopefully improved over the time.

But at least Toyota have recognised the need for a decent sized engine with testicles to match what they are expected to carry . I spoke to an owner of a Ford Ranger Raptor yesterday and told me the same thing great looking truck pity about the piss poor four cylinder engine no good for towing .

Grunt ain't all though. Saw a dodge Ram 1500 give up at the first level of a city carpark a week or so back when the pilot decided he couldn't make the down ramp cormer.

So, with the smaller engine you getting;

Decreased engine life
More repairs due to decreased reliability, time loss (in business time is money)
Potentially more expensive ownership
You will not want to keep it out of original warranty for too long regardless our consumer law the manufacturers might say one day that the useful life of the car is not what you think is reasonable and everything wears out.

Not an engine problem just a truck problem , I had one of those here a couple of weeks ago installing a sunroof and it was scary to drive with its huge length and width . Car Parks ? hell no .

Just as a thought do you know of any major issues with VW's tdi450 in the T6 as it has similar power while less torque and been out for much longer. Mind you with Ford's 5 year warranty and free loan vehicle on service I don't think any commercial operator would have to worry about reliability and lost time with repairs.

You’re right they don’t have to worry, as long as they use only empty vans in business, but some have their vehicles fitted and there could be some time lost when swapping and sometimes the swap is not possible and you lose the van sometimes for many days. It took my Iveco dealer 2 days to replace the heater box in my 2018 Daily and it took me 2 days to remove all the tools from van and fit it back.

I didn’t hear anything about TDI450 yet. Probably still too young.

I'm only going by my experience and granted we don't have a fitted van as you obviously do, Ford dealer found a leak in brake system not noticeable externally after investigating why rear brake wear and discs was so high compared to front, booked my service, dropped off van at close of business, kept loan van for 2 days as they also replaced all four discs and pads under warranty, no work time lost at all. And that's been the case with any service as well....my only gripe was if I had of arrived slightly earlier I could have had the Mustang for the weekend

I't's going to be very interesting to drive a 200kW+ Hiace .... although reports indicate a far heavier new model.

Or maybe the Turbo charged Petrol version they get as an option in Europe .
