Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T5 oil consumption test

Had the car booked in for oil consumption test at the commercial dealer in the city for first thing Tuesday morning, after three hours waiting I was told that they first have to fix every small oil leak first, so rocker cover and main end, after another two hours waiting they quoted $3000 😱 after I calmed down I discovered they mistakenly quoted on a four motion, so another hour and new quote $2000, so I asked for service manager for a private conversation, told him about the bad service and convinced him that we do the consumption test regardless of the small oil leaks, I gues next vw gonna insist on fixing the oil leaks after the oil consumption test before considering any goodwill, maybe I should’ve bought Korean.

2012 , C cooler egr dated ‘15, following a couple oil consumption test, a compression test and fixing physical oil leaks, tpi determined engine replacement, did a goodwill application, thankfully VW paying for parts and I pay labor, the car does have full dealer service history,
I am not convinced that the egr alone is causing the oil consumption issue on the CFCA engine, high compression suggest possible oil rings are stuck, also could well be a valve stem issue. Worst oil consumption was 1L doing 140-150 for an hour in fifth gear, best consumption is half a litre to a thousand kilometres with new oil (15W40) after engine flush and dpf clean.
