My 2007 T5 4 motion is an ex ambulance with the slightly raised Bilstein suspension. It has only just clicked over 150k (i've owned it since 24k). It has recently developed an uneven idle. There does not appear to be any loss of power or increase in fuel use. The uneven running seems to disappear above idle. I've had the injectors and pump checked (fine). Nothing shows on scans. My mechanic suspects a worn camshaft he has heard reports of this starting to be a common fault. Has any one out there got any suggestions.

Mysterious uneven idle

My previous T5 2007 had it's camshaft replaced. It became noticeable with the idle behaving as you described but more obvious was the sound, a deep knocking noise which even I at first thought was something heavy knocking against the chassis. At the time the van was getting worked hard, not as in thrashed around but doing heavy loads, towing, long runs and then lots of metro stop start. etc.. Sadly it got worse quickly once noticed. Occurred at 191,000km back in 2012 and I had all 4 disc rotors and pads replaced and full service plus camshaft replaced for around $8K...the reason I remember so well was I forgot my credit card and used the managers PC to make an EFT.Originally posted by Jazzman View PostMy 2007 T5 4 motion is an ex ambulance with the slightly raised Bilstein suspension. EDIT: It was a known issue, maybe not common like DSG's etc...but the service staff certainly had repaired others and blamed on metal quality of the camshaft...hence why I was given a small discount.Last edited by Tornado T5; 01-09-2018, 08:52 AM.

I don,t think their related but ours developed knocking noise and we suspected broken cam shaft , luckily it was a airconditioner compressor bearing that failed and in turn it broke the mounting due to vibration .Only a $1600 repair as VW would not replace the bearing worth $20 but I suppose it could have been worse .Originally posted by Jazzman View PostYes had the codes scanned and they showed nothing. I am not aware of any knocking from the camshaft. I think I will have it scanned by VW maybe my mechanics software is not sophisticated enough.

I have a rattling noise coming from the aircon.Originally posted by Sunny43.5 View PostI don,t think their related but ours developed knocking noise and we suspected broken cam shaft , luckily it was a airconditioner compressor bearing that failed and in turn it broke the mounting due to vibration .Only a $1600 repair as VW would not replace the bearing worth $20 but I suppose it could have been worse .
I thought it was the serpentine belt tensioner making all the noise but changing it only helped a little.
Then I noticed it went away when I engaged the aircon.
Not sure what to do about it so far.2018 Crafter Runner
