Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dicover 2 feature loss and retrofitting to a T6

Hi all, I’m about to purchase a new t6 lwb 4motion, MY18. Sadly it doesn’t have a nav unit.

I’d like to know if the factory nav units have dynamic guidance such as Waze, Apple maps or google maps do? And if so is there a subscription fee to pay.

My question is also regarding the units available which have protection removed. Do these have the same features as a factory unit, or are some lost as they’re not registered with vw?

I currently have a t5 with an rns510, I never navigate with the unit as it really has no idea where there’s traffic issues or which is the fastest route and i now only use the map function if I need an overall look at streets.

Also I know there’s a 330 available with CarPlay. Can anyone give me some feedback on this unit if they have one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Factory nav doesn't support traffic channel in Australia.
If you want active navigation you have to use Waze etc from your phone via the head unit.
Discover/Composition Media units which have been patched can have all or some features active. You have to check with the seller what features are activated.
Voice control is a paid optional extra for example on Au delivered T6, but not on MY16 Tiguan or Jetta for example...

Perfect, thats the info i was after, im probably better off with the composition unit which has carplay but no nav and save my money. If i can find one with protection removed.
