Engine management light

Coming home tonight after working on the Kombi beach all day the engine management light came on. Any ideas anyone? She’s all fully serviced and running sweet, so it’s not from neglect. It’s going in for a roadworthy next week so I guess I’ll find out then!

Mine was on because of the EGR.
It ran fine for nearly two years and I only changed it because of fear!
(the older models had real problems)

That said..........it is different for different models.
I think mine could have gone forever with the light on.............but anyway.
It's a CAAC engine Nov 2011 build MY2012.

Mine came on because of a faulty intermittent brake light switch which was picked up by the diagnostic done at a service. The switch was replaced and never cam on again.

Thanks Brian and logicprobe. After 9 years of owning the beast it's finally going up for sale in a week or so, my preference is for a simple brake light switch! Will be very sad to see the bus go, as it's been pretty much trouble free for all those years.

My beach will have to last as long as I do, its done 250,000 and I hope it will do another 250,000 in the next decade. The beach model is irreplaceable, I would never get rid of it.

on mine, the brake switch fault was only on the glow plug dash light flashing.
So, unlikely to be that.

Mine is on all the time... well sort of.

Context:
Multivan 2006 V6 Petrol.
I have a VCDS and the fault is a single air leak somewhere in the air pipes.
I reset every now and then but mainly on cold days under certain conditions it will come back on.

Previously I had the break switch failure which is more easier to replace,

It is best if you can have someone with a scan tool verify the nature of fault.

Yep it's going in next week when back from panel beaters. Brianj, I'd love to keep it but got a 200 series land cruiser coming for tow duties and wife is sick of driving big cars around! Many happy memories with it!

I am going to ask the dumb question here and forgive me for asking as I did look in the owners book for the answer , why would a faulty brake light switch come under engine fault ?? surely it would show up under the wheel with two pads symbol as seen in the book .

Thats pretty bizarre for a brake switch to trigger an engine fault , how many people would pull over and then as the book would suggest contact a dealer for service , yes i do know the brake light switch would disable cruise control and stop brake lights from working but hey its todays technology so anything is possible I suppose . Thanks for clarifying that anyway .

See in the good old days other courteous drivers would tell you your brake lights were not working , so you would check the bulbs or check the fuse or the switch itself , if this is todays way of showing a fault how many would have replaced their glow plugs or EGR or one of a dozen other things before getting to a switch on the brakes . Don,t worry guys I am not long before shuffling of this mortal coil and you wont have to worry about me griping about car technolgy on the Forum -------------------------------------------But not for a long time yet only a young 65 so plenty of time to keep annoying the crap out of the purists , unless I kill my self Moto Cross riding . HA HA .
