Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2017 Caddy 1.4 Petrol DSG service queries

    Hi all,

Have just purchased the above unit and wondered if it has a cam belt or timing chain and at what point either need servicing?

Also have been told it has a 7 speed DSG which unlike the 6 speed doesn’t require service at 60000km and looking to confirm.

    Thanks in advance! Cheers

I believe the current 1.4T engine uses a timing belt, but your owners manual should confirm this. Most of the time, VW recommend timing belts be changed at 6yrs or 105,000km.

As for the gearbox, I believe the Caddy uses the 7 speed DSG (DQ200) but you should be able to confirm this quite quickly when driving the car or checking your owners manual. I dont believe VW have an official service schedule for the 7 speed DSG but given the somewhat fragile nature of this gearbox, I would be getting the oil changed at 4yrs or 60,000km like the other DSG gearboxes.
