6N Polo clutch thrust/throw out bearing cost?

Hi, a quick call out for some advice as I can't contact any mechanics over this Australia Day weekend.

Anyone know a ball park cost for replacing a clutch thrust bearing in a 6N polo?

Also is it a possible DIY job, or is it work shop only?

Lastly, is there anything else worth doing as routine maintenance while the bearing is being done?

If you're pulling the gearbox out to do the thrust bearing, you might as well replace the whole clutch assembly.

Also replace the guide tube for the thrust bearing. On mine it was worn[140,000km] & would sometimes catch. This resulted in reverse gear grating some of the time. I had read that on the club polo forum. I removed my clutch as a DIY but found it difficult because of the tight spaces.

Done this many times and it is DIY but it's a lot easier with an engine crane to support the box and u need an engine support as u have to undo a mount. As others said, do the entire clutch assembly if you are there already, false economy not to unless you know how old the clutch is.

Actual bearing no idea on cost but I think the last clutch kit I bought for the 6n1 was about $170 or so and that included the bearing along with friction and pressure plates (Sachs or LUK I believe)

Mine was a 6N2 [I don't know if different from the 6N1] & I bought the LUK kit. From memory it cost just over $150 trade from Imparts.
I think the VW price was $400-$500. I had to buy the sleeve from VW.

Thanks for the info guys -appreciate it. Have also checked with a few workshops - for a clutch kit installed including thrust bearing etc, approx $850-$1100 depending on which workshop and exactly what is replaced.

I agree, makes sense to do as much as possible while in there to make the most of the labour charge.
