  • Strange relay click

    Hi folks

Have you noticed a click of a relay (or at least that's what I think - it sounds very similar to the wipers coming on when it's on intermittent, or when you turn on the demister, and it comes from the same area behind the panel where the relays are). It occasionally clicks as you're driving. I haven't turned anything on or left anything turned on or noticed any difference and it's bugging me a bit trying to figure out what it is... any ideas?

and i found taht a wire underneath my steering wheels on the right hand side is not connected...

the car goes fine, so i m just going to leave it alone till next dealer service...

I get that too, particularly when stopped at a set of traffic lights. The car vibrates a little less after the click, I think it must be an engine management thing.

Actually, I also get that click when I start the engine from cold. It happens just after the engine revs drop to about 800.

        I get that as well.
Isnt that norma on a cold start up tho?
It revs (roughly) around 1100rpm for about 30-45secs... then u get that click (whatever it is turnin off/on) and the idle falls to 700rpm and is smooth.

I dont get that click any other time while I drive tho.

There is a click with the brake pedal, that might be it. Only relay related click on I can think of.

There is a click from the brake switch behind the dash when touching the brake pedal. Could that be it?

With the revs dropping too it's not the AC compressor turning on and off is it?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

From my experience for what it's worth the relay for A/C compressor is in the engine bay because it's a big mutha...

Now is that a 'click'? Or a 'Tick'? .... Oh no ... It's a BOMB ... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

Ever notice how new owners pick up every little squeak, rattle, tick and hum? You'll get used to it. In a while you'll be talking door hinge squeaks, springs settling groans, etc. etc. (Do a search ... it'll all come back.)

I remember a few new owners not even knowing about the storage bins under the front seats

Squeak, rattles you can put down to a build/fit/finish issue (incidentally, my dash does rattle as the door panel rubs against the dash) and you either live with that or get it fixed, which I will in my case considering it's part of the reason I chose the Pog over a Clio Sport even though it's less fun, stock for stock.

An unidentfied, distinct mechanical/electrical click on the other hand is something else entirely.

I get a click (like a relay sound) every time after about 2 - 5 mins of driving. It originates from behind the light switch I think.

I only get it once and never again ... (every time)

                          I've been ignoring it.

Depending on the types of relays they use it is probably normal. Larger industrial contactors (415V 50A) make a hell of a bang when they work, so im not overly concerned about little ticks from ours.

                            My car does it too.
