  • how does it go with the spool compared to the old turbo. Looks like you're into third quickly to keep traction, there's a delay but then its just nuts from 4-7k. Also looks like you need a longer straight? Have you decided which box you'll go with?

    • With the way it’s setup currently it spools a lot more gradually than the old turbo. You can hear in some of the races here it’s spinning up 3rd too 130-160kph so there’s a fine line with between getting it to come on hard but maintaining traction.

From the info I gathered yesterday, I’m going to have it adjusted so Boost comes in earlier in 3rd and likely turn the peak boost down in 2nd to try and reduce wheel spin. The boost curve can come on much sooner, but John had requested we leave the curve now and progressive to begin with and test that out before going any more aggressive with it because he feared that it might make it undriveable.

Gearbox wise I currently can’t see any reason to steer away from the 5 speed, I like the gearing of it and touch wood, it feels really solid so far. It’s just the tune itself we will tweak

      • sounds like a plan. Anti lag crackling away on the 2nd to 3rd gear change? Hey I looked back through your build but couldn't find it - had you gone to a different exhaust cam?

That crackle is just a bit of ignition cut pre limiter so that it’s not bashing limiter hard each time it lights up.

No, cams are stock, but those along with injectors would be the next things in line to be changed if we wanted to push more power.

That's good deal getting to run early in the morning before the State Championship racing starts, reasonable price too. Past the witches hats = nail the throttle, interesting concept. There were a couple friends of mine up there for the IP races. Ray in the blue Falcon won all of the 4 Races and set the Clubman Circuit Lap Record for IP cars on Saturday. He already had the National Circuit Lap Record.

Sam, below is the links to what you’ll need for the install. It’s worth noting that the outlets they give you are 1/2 BSP which is a bit of an odd sizing for what’s normally used in our fittings so I got a male to male adapter that went from 1/2 BSP to AN10 to match the rest of my lines and oil cooler core outlets. That’s linked below as well.

                        • So last weekend I was out at QR again to test out a few things in the polo and monitor a few things. A few days before hand I went and saw Carlos and he gave me a hand to setup the link ECU for boost by gear as it’s going back on the dyno (hopefully this week) to set up the boost map for each gear so we can turn 1st and 2nd down but turn 3rd and 4th up and have the boost come on earlier. We will also be adding in a 4 Bar fuel reg to get another 100-150cc out of the injectors so it will be interesting to see what additional power can be added.

On top of the boost by gear I’m making some physical changes, such as traction bars which I made yesterday and today. They will come back out tomorrow for some paint as they are steel. Only done a handful of pulls before heading home but the improvement is significant and very noticeable in the way the car acts under hard acceleration. I’ll also be looking to stiffen the rear spring rate, most likely in the form of rubber spring helpers/spacers that some drag racers use as you can just put them in on the day of the track day then remove them afterwards so you aren’t compromising on a stiff ride around town.

Here’s the link to the last weekends session at QR. The V10 Audi R8 and Lambo owners was quite surprised to see they were shaking off the little ol’ polo

                            • Those rods, they'd help prevent castor change I suppose. Do they help with axle tramp too, is that the aim?

                              • Yup that’s correct Sam. The idea is it stops the lower arms moving around and unloading under power. Helps stop Axel/wheel tramp as a side effect.
