Tosspot - Pass me some of that crack you're smoking - There isn't a chance in the world the polo has better build quality than a 2006 A4. If it does, your dad got a complete lemon and should take his car back asap.

Not biased to the Polo at all. I wanted that car all along but it was out of my price range even through mates rates. The Polo was the only car I looked at that had a comparable interior and how solid it feels when you open and close doors and move things around.

Right down to the indicator/wiper stalks. The Polo's are much thicker and chunkier and don't feel like you'll break them when you use them.

Don't get me wrong, my next car will be an A3 or A4 depending what I can afford. They are an awesome car.

Polo will be quicker in a straight line and get a little more power out of when modified.

Mk4 should handle better with its wider stance/longer wheelbase (quicker time around the ring stock for stock)

Whenever someone starts a silly XXX vs XXX thread, the responses are rarely objective, and many feel the need to justify and defend the decision they made.

I'd have to agree with Sov's (not all ) and Tim's comments. I've owned a Mk4 and Polo GTI, both great in their own way, both have serious flaws, eg weight or poor dynamics. ..and comments about design are highly subjective. Reckon the mods should shut this thread

Smitch asked for peoples perspectives and I think this has given him a few good things to investigate and come to his own conclusion on. Any x vs y topic will always have two sides of the story - there is never a right and wrong answer.
