ok ok enough titter tatter. but seriously, you can't compare an A4 to an MKIV golf...or a polo. same as lexus is to toyota, the audi is a better quality vw FULL STOP (comparing cars of the same year obviously).

as for you dub 20V, you can pick a polo GTI from a match/club from a mile away, as for the mkIV golf's, you can't tell until they get close, there is nothing 'mean' about a standard MkIV golf. i'm not saying ours does, but i do think it has more of a sporty look. you have to remember, mkIV's have been out a lot longer and therefore a lot more parts are available for aesthetics. the 9N3 polo on the other hand....not so much out there....YET.

it is clear you have a soft spot for the MKIV, as we do to the Polo GTI, but there is no need to put down the Polo GTI on looks because i think you will find a lot of people on this forum will agree the looks of our car are quite good, and the interior much better to say the least. as jeremy clarkson says, "it deservedly carries the GTI badge with great attention to detail inside and out" (not exact words, but something very similar).

don't get me wrong, i like the looks of the MKIV Golf GTI a lot, i was going to get one, but for that extra edge in styling, quality, and obviously the age of the car, i opted for the polo.

as for never seeing a 'fat' polo....please (please note - not as much needs to be done to enhance the looks of a Polo):

Again - this is something that's open to interpretation, but I felt strongly enough inclined one way for it to be a major deciding factor between deciding between the two.
as did i, and for about the same money, i believe i made the right choice

I do believe these were the famous last words (see the 500 page polo is a girls car thread) of someone who discovered the GTI badge on the rear of the baby dub...

Hehehehehehehe...Go The polo, it has many spots to stash you lip gloss and eye liner, that way, my girlfriend cant use mine... Ahh bugger, did I just let my secret slip...??
I'm used to the "girls car" thing(I had a 2004 Barina SRI before the Polo....Yes, I can admit it!! Its only failing IMO was that it didn't have a turbo), but it quickly stops when the bogan in the Commonwhore beside you gets left behind. At then end of the day, if you are happy with what you have(I know I am), then you are set.

I do love my Hair Dressers car!!

call it what want, but when speaking to VW about 3 months ago, it was stated that approximately 85% of the puchasers of the Polo GTI were male. there are two MKIV GTI's at my workplace... a grandma owns one and an female chef owns the other.....go figure. i really think it's lame that people have to resort to pathetic comments....head to boostcruising.com for that rubbish.

i thought VW was a tight knit community with respect for each others cars f all models, it seems only the MKIV drivers such as yourselves are dragging the chain. it really ruins the enjoyment of owning one. pull your head in guys.

Polo will be quicker in a straight line and get a little more power out of when modified.

Mk4 should handle better with its wider stance/longer wheelbase (quicker time around the ring stock for stock)

As much as I'd go the polo for the extra power (and sleeper factor), I can't get over how girly it looks.
... people call the Golf a girls car.. in comparison, that makes the polo a gays car. (Sorry guys - personal opinion )

Tosspot - Pass me some of that crack you're smoking - There isn't a chance in the world the polo has better build quality than a 2006 A4. If it does, your dad got a complete lemon and should take his car back asap.

You're obviously more than a little biased.

end of the day, we're quicker in standard form. bit of a let down getting beaten by a 'girls car'

I'm a girl polo gti driver and i don't think its a girl's car at all. i think it just comes down to personal preference. if that means bang for buck on price and mod capability then buy it.. who cars if you get taunted for driving a car thats supposedly "stereotypically" female - social construct meh who cares!!

if you enjoy it, then thats all that matters.. and like ppl have already said, it doesn't take much to make the polo have a meaner stance..

Good call, Lora ... but then my wife thinks our Pogo is too much of a masculine car ... she'd be driving a soft lil', automatic toymota starlet or similar if she had her way. Admittedly, since chipping the car and adding a few other mods ... she doesn't mind laying a patch of rubber across an intersection ... but I don't encourage that sort of driving (much) .
