I already took the risk and bought the rims yesterday.
I called a couple of tyre shop today and told them I have 17" rims for my car. One shop asked me for my existing stock tyre size and he said the 205/40 R17 will be the best fit for my car but this tyre is apparently less common than the 215/40 R17 and hence costs $20 more per tyre.
I am in Perth so I think there isn't a lot of tyre retailer choices for me? K Mart Tyres and Bob Jane are the two retailers I have called. Does anyone else knows what other tyre retailers in Perth carry Bridgestone tyres???
How did you get on here, did 215/40 work fine on those rims? I've got a set of rims the same specs, but the jury is out on the tyre size. Probably wouldn't mind going 205/45 r17 if it'll work with my h&r springs.

I run 205/45 R17s with my H&R springs. They clear fine and are a nice fit, fill the arches really well
Sweet! Do you think the speedo is a bit pessimistic now? I think standard they're like 10% optimistic on these cars.
I don't think so. Although I haven't ever really tested it. Put it this way, if I go past speed cameras bang on the limit, I don't get pinned for speeding so it can't be to far out even with taking the speed buffer allowance into account..

I went with 205/40 R17 Potenza Adrenalin RE3 tyres and they certainly fit fine with plenty of clearance.

What offset are your ones, do you know? I've now got two sets of 17x7s - one at ET35 and the other at about 41, by my measurements... Thanks.
I'm not sure of the offset of the Audi TT rims, but I run a 215/45/17 semi slick on it, no scrubbing on bumps, only a very little if/when going full lock right.
The speedo is out about 8% with standard tyres, it's less with the 215/45's, but still out. More like 3-5% at 100kph. That's measured with my lap timer. With the daily 17's, it's still ~3-5% out. Can't recall exact figures, but still on the safe side to have the speed a bit over 100kph and not exceed the posted limits.
