Stu I'm going 16's, just got new 17's made in England to the suit three good Brigestone Re55s that I had, only to find that the size of 215/40/17 no longer available in Brige's or in any other semi's.
I had to resort to Toyo's 888 205/40/17 a couple of weeks ago & me didn't like.
So now I'm looking @ 225/45/16 (they fit) which is very common in track tyres but not for street.
Should have gone this way in the first place seeing that the brakes were updraded to suit 16's, me is an idiot.
Having troubles finding good affordable rims in the 16 x 8 though.

That seems to be the consensus. I was interested in going with the Marangoni Zetas but you'll be hard press to finding any. I found out that the distributor for oz has gone into receivership.

The Marangoni's were rubbish. No progression, Sweet F A grip in the wet.

They only look cool.

youse two guys sound like you're in a rather similar boat.

for years i have been running BF Goodrich G-Force sports - my sizes are smaller than most (i run 15 inch wheels), but last set i got was at $115 per corner. im sure you could get 16/17 inch sizes for very reasonable prices.

the reason i recommend these tyres is that they are an AWESOME tyre for those who want good tread life (320), in a tyre that is still nice and grippy for those weekend twisty road sessions, they offer plenty of feedback when they are close to the limit, and they are VERY progressive - they will break, and keep trying for grip, so no "break and then you're in a ditch" stuff.

also, they are AWESOME in the wet - myself and gti_dave, first time we had a fang together, it was pissing down up over reefton/ warburton etc, and on those big, banked corners, the two of us would grip into a turn, apply the throttle, and just slide the whole way around the corner - i have never, ever driven on a tyre that is as controllable and progressive in the wet, as the BFG g-force sport.

they're a very underrated all rounder, in my opinion.

now, i use different tyres, but i'll be looking at another set of wheels down the track so that, like greg, i can run bridgestone ecopias or something else with a ridiculously high treadwear rating.

Feed back is always welcome, that's why I'm on here. I was curious and wanted to try them out. Some say they are awesome and some say differently. Never bought tyres for their look but I can't try these out so I'll be looking at others.

other tyres i've got experience with are the bridgestone re02 adrenalin potenzas - they were cheap also, but when i got them, i was chasing front end grip in an effort to reduce the car's understeer.

the bridgestones were OKAY, but not good enough for what i required. so i put them on the back.

other tyres:
- dunlop dz101
- goodyear gd-s3
- hankook ventus v12 evo
- kumho ku31 (if you dont want to think about tyres, from what i've read).
- hero hz-1
- achilles atr sport

Geez, the price difference is ridiculous from place to place.

Been getting quotes for Kumho KU31 in 205/45/16.

So far:

Tempe Tyres: $120 each fitted and balanced
Taleb Tyres: Don’t sell the Kumho in that size, offered Toyo Extensa for $125 each fitted and balanced
Top Ten Tyres: $150 each fitted and balanced
Option1Garage: $167 each excluding delivery and fitting!

Pays to shop around. Still waiting to hear back from Ozzy and 7 Day Tyres in Granville.

I've got some new tyres fitted and i'm pretty damn pleased with them.

They're Falken ZE192 in 205/45/16R.

I've found them to be extremely communicative when on the limit, I know just how far I can push them.

On accel/decel they bite VERY hard. I'll get a little chirp in both first and second and then they just GRIP GRIP GRIP.

After having just driven 800km of freeways over the easter break i'm pleased to report that they are in no way a tiring tyre - there was minimal tyre roar and they were soaking up the little bumps with ease (36 warm psi).

I got mine done through a mate in Melbourne for $160 p/corner fitted and balanced and i'm sure you can track down a similar deal in NSW.

There are Advans for the road (Sport/dB/AD08/ZPS) and Advans for the track (A048/A050).

No idea about the road ones but the A048s (and almost certainly the A050s as well) are rubbish on road - incredibly noisy, harsh riding and noticable drag, slowing acceleration and eating fuel, plus they wear stupidly fast.

They do corner/brake/drive ridiculously well, though, to the point where you can get a sore neck over 20km of winding roads while scaring yourself silly trying to even approach their limits.

Skinny (175) Michelin XM2s are MUCH more fun for road use and are immensely more refined.

ok guys have had the Toyo proxe 4's on for about 15000kms now and got to say AWESOME tyres the grip is ridunculous I just ran a 13.89 on them tonight and if there was any wheel spin off my launch I didnt notice it and I wasn't pussy footing around either.
