I don't think Continental import an suitable tyres for the Polo GTI anymore.

You should be able to get Michelin PS3 for 180-200 each.

Rim Size - Avanti 17" not sure what the type was called, they're old now..
New Tyre - Nexen N6000
Price - $115 per tyre at a goodyear in Castle Hill area of NSW
Tyre Size - 205/40/17
Tyre Replaced - Toyo Proxes4
Km's On new Tyre - Roughly 3000km's
Thoughts on New Tyre - I had the Toyo's ever since I boght my set of rim's and I loved them, great grip, great wear.. But I couldn't really afford $250 a tyre before rego this year so I bought the Nexem N6000's and I'm actually really happy with them, I think they'll wear a little faster but for grip and ride comfortability they're quite nice, especially for a cheaper brand tyre!!

Kuhmo KH17s are around $130 fitted
KU31s are $190

at this stage the KH17s despite a few people on this forum not liking them might be the only viable option for not spending big $$

I will be purchasing 215/40/17 tyres in the next couple of weeks to go on some 17 x 7.5 rims.

Kumho KU31 is the cheap solution at around $160.00 at most local suppliers (yes you can buy them from a bit over $100.00 online but by the time I pay shipping and then fitting, they are no longer $100.00 bargains). Had these on my HSV and great bang for your buck but I would like to do better.

Brdigestone Adrenalin RE002 should be excellent (very happy with the earlier RE001 on the other halfs A3 and by all accounts the RE002 is at least a modest improvement). Costs is not nice with the best price I have being $239.00 a corner fitted.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 - online reports suggest it is a very good tyre for a smaller lighter vehicle like the 9N. Goodyear buy 4 pay for 3 promotion sees them working out at $153.75 a corner fitted. Given what I will have to pay for KU31s these at first glance seem an excellent deal. Does any body have any experience with these?

31's. I don't think the 39's have the same following.

Bought the Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional 5 at $153.75 a corner.

Time will tell how they perform and I will have to leave it to my son to report as I much prefer steering my recently accquired C63. Initial feedback from him was that they are not surprisingly an improvement on the worn but legal oem Dunlop Sport Maxxs.

I can say that I am very impressed with the degree of rim protection a 215/40/17 Eagle F1 Directional 5 offers on a 7.5 BBS rim. Substantial tyre "lip" offers a large degree of comfort should you strike something. If you are looking for rim protection these should be at the top end of your list.

Interested to see how they go in the long term - I haven't considered Goodyear tyres for many years but I've been seeing quite a few positive reviews in recent times so might be worth giving them another go next time my Polo needs new rubber.

I hope you made friends with the tyre guys whilst you were buying those Goodyears - my wife can only manage about 10,000kms out of the rear tyres on her C63 and they're worth more per corner than that full set for the Polo... Congrats on the purchase!

When I bought the C63, I said to my other half that the only other thing to do was get some nice 19" rims. The other half said you have just spent well over $100K, don't tell me you need rims. "Ok " I said, I will get rims when I need to change tyres and she was happy with that. My son and I had a laugh knowing that new tyres would likely not be too far off even though the Continetals were near new.

Bridgestone dealers will say to you it is a goodyear every year you do not have goodyears on your car. I have just had a short drive with the Goodyears - quiet and feel good - a bit more balanced - difficulty is determining how much of the better feel is due to the new 7.5 inch - 215/40/17 foorprint. My primary interest will be in how they handle wet roads.

Assuming they handle the wet well, the price I paid makes them excellent value.

Am looking at replacing all 4 tyres in the next week or so, and can get a good deal on some Bridgestone RE002's. I was thinking about going for KU31's, but if these are a far better tyre for similar cost I will go for the Bridgestones. Anyone had any experience with these?

I would have put on RE002s on the Polo as I am very happy with the RE001s on the A3 and the RE002s are supposed to be even better. At $250.00 a tyre upward (some wanted closer to $300.00) the Goodyears won easily. If you can get them at a great price then they are a much better proposoition than the KU31s. That said KU31's on my HSV Clubsport were fantastic bang for the $.

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing a little research tonight, and pretty much all reviews are excellent. Price quoted is $189 fitted/balanced for standard pog 16", but added bonus is that Bridgestone has a special buy 3, get 4th free offer at the moment. So if anyone is in the same situation, it might be worth contacting local bridgestone dealer.

I'll be sorting mine out in the next few days.

I'll post some feedback on the RE002's in 17".
I'm currently wearing RE001's in a 16".

31's are good for a budget tyre (don't think more than $130 is really a great price).
The RE002's should be a much higher spec.

I have the 31's on the front of mine. Just getting 2 more to replace the rear conti's and was quoted $145 per tyre.
Was quoted $187 per tyre at one well known chain.
