Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Appear to be the cheapest, but I've never heard of anyone's experience?

Read it, doesn't say anything apart from acknowledging its existence, but thanks!

yeah, they did a fairly large launch here in the last year or so. Popular with the Golf R boys (or it was when I looked).

think you also need to buy the loader device, how much is it nowdays?

Not sure anyone is doing a map file for less than CC, but I have not looked at pricing in a while, Giac and Revo could be giving it away...

GIAC is $995, Revo $899 and APR $1062

I'm thinking the only way to get APR to support the future mods if to get a V-Tune file and do it myself? So they will refund.

I'd choose custom code from Gavin.

                      V-Tune is not compatible.

Your options post tune come down to selectable files and Lemmiwinks / Custom Settings (both let you fiddle a little in the same way)

Those prices are good, what do you want at the end of the day? If APR is close, thats good for the first month. I've never had to call after leaving, i'd say thats likely the same for 90%+ of Polo's with tunes.

If you want Performance, Giac has shown good dyno results, CC is an ongoing story and seems to have the best numbers for KO3 success, Revo I think have some program, I think... Kai had it? Can't remember the details.

I don't mean to badmouth APR, I've been happily scooting around with V1 with some added ingnition timing for years, but I have my own weighing up to do and am again talking about changing my tune (going on too long).

Thanks Ben (your turning out to be very helpful )

I like that APR is very close ( 3 mins away) the dealer is really nice and has given me quotes for other mods ect. I also like the ability to change back to stock, fault code erase and valet mode. APR made my car alot faster to begin with, but started fading as time went on, as my car adjusted i suppose.

I want the highest performance and a tune i can build upon. I want a full milltek turbo back with down pipe, TIP, Forge intercooler, Forge 008 and CAI (PD160 and K&N panel.) i know the car wont run well with the new downpipe without a tune, a tune with for some reason APR doesnt offer.

I contact viezu, they are 20 mins away, a better price and said:

We offer ongoing free stage upgrades, updates, free tweaks, free new tunes in the event you lose your file due to service centre flash update etc etc so you can't go wrong.
So yes - if you modify - we tweak the file (free) and go from there. For these, it depends on the coding type - we'll have a vPERFORMANCE level of coding, but will need to see the specific coding type before saying whether our Technical Centre can write you a vRace file for it....

                        Your thoughts?

It is simply not true that a GTI with APR tune will not run well with a down pipe. I run an APR tune with a custom downpipe and a custom FMIC with no issues at all and have done so for about 5 years.

APR only boosts to 0.8 bar sustained and yet was within 5kw of the custom code tune running at 1.0 bar at the latest Brisbane dyno day ......

Not saying CC is bad, far from it, just that APR is still right up there .... I would stay away from all the other tuners out there except for GIAC.

That's a bit unfair to say and advise, but I accept your opinion, because it's based on your amateur knowledge.
