Even the dealer said he never gets them in. he also said "we don't have much local data on them so I'd like to offer it to you for $799 with a free dyno, and at BMR." which is a great price with everything considered.

i might go with them just for a bit of fun, its going to be my project car after all.

By the way what's a BMR? (dont worry, its the workshop)

Ill be watching this thread with great interest.
Ive also been tossing up tunes and viezu tune came up. The greatest part in my opinion is the free retunes. As i am slowly modifying my polo this looks like a viable option for me as the cost of retuning with other companies adds up.. not building any sort of monster polo but unlimited retunes when adding anything to the lil guy seems tempting.. however in saying that, the initial viezu tune seems not as aggressive as what the other companies are offering.

Love to see what you end up doing. Im also in sydney maybe there can be some sort of group discount?

I think the thread is dead, especially after a dealer for the tune said, more or less, not to get the tune, stick with APR, REVO , GIAC or CC as its best no to be experimented on....

you'd want to clarify, but I believe they will tweak a V1 map to your tastes, not retune it every time you add a bigger this or more efficient that.

Really, there isn't that much to tuning, you don't need to change the tune if you add a phenolic spacer or change your spark plugs. The main tune options are stock, with a exhaust / IC, bigger turbo. As discussed, many don't offer all of these or some want you to pick their package with the turbo upgrades (as its not really custom, but existing files that can be tweaked).

I've seen a few buy injectors, then change the turbo / coder and end up selling them to get what the tuner suggests.

I think(?) I'm the only Aus 9N3 Polo owner on watercooled with a Viezu tune - I'm not really one for performance at all to be honest as many people know, but a stock Polo is slow as sh*t so you need to get a tune at some point. The first thing I really liked about the Viezu tune and it's probably the same for other brands is the insane increase in fuel economy, but that only lasted about 6 weeks and now it's worse than it was before I had it tuned. As for performance, I can very very rarely light up the tyres in 2nd in a straight line with ESP off. I got it this morning for maybe the second time, probably because it was freezing cold and I've reduced the load with smaller brakes/lighter wheels. So when everyone goes on about fighting for traction - yeah not in my car I can't exactly speak well of their customer service either, but I better not open my mouth on that one or I'll get banned or something.

To summarise - would I go with Viezu in the future - probably not. But that's only because Gav exists and the next tune I'll be getting will be for my 1.8T MK1 Cabby.

Just to clarify and it seems Greg is correct in saying - not to be the Guinea Pig, in that most tunes will give significant "savings" in fuel consumption. Even Stage 2 tunes as seen with Gavin and my cars.

If Gavin didnt exist, who would you go with? viezu or one of the others?

Well that's tough because I'd need custom work doing - to get a MK4 GTI/Polo GTI ECU working with a Passat 1.8T engine in a MK1 Golf - it's not exactly off the shelf, and I don't know any other people as reputable as Gavin to do it. If I had to go off the shelf I'd consider GIAC - mainly based of Bflat's experience with their tune on his Polo GTI.

With APR my fuel shot way up! 40% more (even driving nicely) but when i did go hard it went like a stabbed rat i swear the stock mode is slower than it ever was but i think i blew the DV.

Same with me. It's not greatly worse if gentle, but not any better. Highway cruising to bribie island turn off on the weekend I was low 7's. By the time I got to my parents at bribie, it was 9's. I just think that if I had an Audi A4 with the 1.8T engine those figures would be considered good/reasonable, it's just that these cars are small there's a presumption that'd be frugal.

Though the figures Ant and Gavin get are great. All the more reason to add a dump pipe

interesting to note the variances in fuel economy pre/post tuning. I was under the (false?) impression that a fuel economy improvement was a given, seems not.

I have an APR Stage 1 tune in mind, perhaps I should get the 6 hour test and burn a tank of petrol to test. ATM I get 8.5 city running with A/C on.

If you do Gordon do as others have said and get Quattro to save your existing tune for you so you can put it back on if you need to, as opposed to the 'APR' stock tune.

APR is a good tune for the first 2 hours, it felt like driving my uncles WRX, 1st and 2nd went so fast. then i assumed it ended, performance was okay, like it used to be, but then the tune actually ended and my car..haha, struggles, i cant even get the wheel to spin in first.... something i couldnt help before my APR tune. So rather

                          A) i got used to the tune, then realised how slow my car was with "APR's" stock tune.

                          B) APR is actually great, blew my DV, then had a broken car with a blown DV and stock APR tune.

As im replacing the DV to a forge 008 next week, im hoping its B.

You drive with the A/C... my A/C makes my car whines like a dying cat and power low down is just sad. i almost stall sometime up hills if i have it on because im so used to the car with it off

Take the DV off and test it. Just google the method.

I have a rule, never fiddle with my car, i ALWAYS do more damage than good just not my gift. in fifth when i let go of the throttle at at low revs there's like a "boom boom boom" burble sound which i only noticed recently. But its not a flutter as such.
