Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    mine cost $200 all up installed from the APR dealer here on the Gold Coast. an hour to install @ $80 an hour.

        I just had a squiz through my service dockets and it appears I was charged the same too. Roughly $80 for the install.

          • I might give them a call back and ask for a quote for the APR torque arm insert upgrade.

            Incidentally, I haven't told my wife about the ECU upgrade. What do ya's reckon? Should I tell her or not? Considering she's just back from a skiing holiday in France with the kids and left me here to work, I think I deserve to treat myself!

                  Do it in your Garage with a large vice, and 2 pieces of pipe, or if you have access to an Arbor Press, use that.
                  Step one...Remove the 3 16mm bolts that hold the Torque arm in.
                  Step two...Place Torque arm in Arbor Press and push out the Stock insert...(you will need and appropriate mandrel approximately the the same diameter as the insert...I used a large socket)
                  Step three...Apply the white grease supplied, line up correctly(look at the photos supplied) and push in the APR insert...This will go in alot easier than the stock one coming out.
                  Step four...Push in metal bush into APR Insert.
                  Step five...Remount Torque Arm. Apply a small amount of Locktite to the 16mm bolt threads, then do up tight. I torqued these up to about 55NM, as I couldn't find any references as to the torque of these bolts, but I havn't had any drama's.
                  Job is done...It literally takes 10min to do the job.

                        • Booked in for an APR reflash and engine mount next weekend. Get the car tomorrow.

                          For the sake of $40 for the install I will just get Volkspower to install the mount. I don't have the right tools at home atm. And I am not worried about getting my hands dirty either. Did a turbo change on both of my two Subaru's I have owed. The oil return line is a bitch!

                          • Got my car back yesterday afternoon. Sheet read

                            -Performed recall 35A7 (funny that :p)
                            -Regassed aircon. Road tested and found compressor to be faulty (booked in for 12/3 for replacement)
                            -Refitted sideskirt
                            -Unable to fault radio
                            -Unable to fault esp light. No fault code stored (but they did reset the computer. funny that)
                            -Pressure tested cooling system. Unable to find fault
                            -Passenger door out of alignment. Realigned door and relubricated.

                            They've told me that I need to run in the gearbox for approx 500kms to get the new oil through all the gears. If it still crunches then gearbox will be rebuilt.

                            Sofar the gearbox feels 110% better than before. The gears are much tighter and best of all no crunching into 2nd and 3rd (did crunch into reverse again last night).

                            • Got my Polo back from the dealer yesterday, had to return the Tourag though...

                              APR doesn't feel as fast as I remember it being. Faster than when switched off but not as much faster as it previously did, perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me.
