The ECU and APR map are doing their job, making sure the turbo isn't over-boosting (and protecting your engine and turbo). You'll always get higher boost in the higher gears. If you want to run more boost, get a boost controller, but make sure you have some spare turbos, bc they wont last long ; )

You may be hitting 'peaks' and surges of 0.9 (stock) and 1.4 (APR flash) but the ECU will correct that and pull it back. Stock is approx 6-7psi and flashed 15psi (can go higher).

Excuse my lack of knowledge here...

1.0 bar is around 14.7psi (is that correct?)

So are you saying that new Polo GTI's are running almost 13 - 14psi?

Then with APR Tune you are running almost 20psi! Wow thats alot!!!

I have just a manual boost control on my MK4 GTI and standard it was running 6psi, I have boosted to 9psi. That was a huge difference, maybe I should boost it higher as it seems as though these engines / turbos are tough enough to take it.

How did you hook this up if you don't mind me asking??? Doesn't the stock N75 valve stop you from running a manual bleed valve or electronic boost controller?? Thanks

as long as there is no leak im happy.
1.4 was achieved in 2nd gear.
in 4th it peak at 1.1, and stay there.

just remove the 2 hoses goin into n75 n connect up to boost controller. i bumped up d boost to 11psi and feels heaps better. but now i am chipped but still use a mbc @ 16psi.

it almost becomes mandatory when you own a 1.8t

yes, it's almost offensive not to do it ..best approach is to factor in some basic upgrades to the handling and brakes prior to the flash.

No, chip 1st before anything else..... then later start with the brakes and handling.

Standard brakes and suspension will handle the extra power just fine if you keep off the track.

In my opinion an ideal upgrade path should be:
                          1. Chip
                          2. Air Intake & filter.
                          3. Upgraded diverter valve
                          4. Tyres - preferably 17"
                          5. Sway bars F+R + strut brace
                          6. Brake upgrade - ECSTuning provides a 312mm F upgrade for about $500
                          7. Suspension - Eibach etc....
                          8. Exhaust
                          9. FMIC
                          10. K04

On my new years list is #4, #6 & #9... I know I'm not following my own path to enlightenment but time and finances sometimes forces compromise.....

A flash tune will give you more power than you'll find traction for, so it's important to spend money trying to better manage both traction and grip relative to the power you now have.

All you need to do with brakes is go to higher performance pads and fluid. Bigger rotors are probably an overkill, but the stock brakes are quite ordinary, even for road use, IMHO. RSB settles the handling nicely, and adjustable shocks will overcome the strange damping control of the stockers.

These will give the most noticeable beneficial changes -- after that it tends to become marginal ....and largely academic on the road.
