a few people on here have swapped to oiled filters (BMC, K&N etc.) and said there is improvements to the car.

they haven't posted anything negative yet so i assume it's alright...

I've got K&N ... luv it ... no problems. In fact ... with the Seat air intake and the K&N filter ... think it gives the engine noise just the right ... nuance (look it up).

        Yes, K&N 33-2830

I hated taking off the Pod filter. It had a glorious intake sound, you can even hear the wastegate faintly.......

For the price I believe Dave is right, best combination is the Seat intake and K&N (or BMC) for better performance and sound than standard. I found going the BMC CDA like Guy's to be too expensive ($1200+) plus it spoils the look of the engine bay (since space is so limited)

What you need for a BMC CDA is the CDA kit itself, upper hose to MAF and smaller battery so it all fits (approx $800 self-install). Note - no need to buy filters ever again, the internal filter just needs to be cleaned (easy to do) every 30k. Once installed (with smaller battery) it frees up heaps of space in the bay and saves on weight.

The seat mod is great too - depends on what suits you. If you're serious about performance, go CDA, but it is radical surgery (visually) to the engine bay and VW service depts would prob say "WTF" when they open your bonnet. That's why these things come down to the individual circumstances. Personally, I would never turn back...

Since I've already got the intake, the filter sounds tempting. How much work is involved in installing the K&N filter? Is it buried deep below lots of other parts that are hard to get out?

It's pretty easy, Funk. Take out the 2 screws ... lift the top ... take out old filter ... drop in the K&N and then close up.

One thing I DID have a bit of hassle with was relocating the two lobes that hook under plastic brackets on the opposite side to the screws. You have to keep one word in mind when you are doing that bit ... "SLIDE". (I'll get pics if necessary.)

              Cheers

Group buy thru Shaneth. He's not currently 'on air' but is due back early in the new year, I understand.
