Looks like you still have std manifold Eddy? this one has a big throat ATP and the trouble with that is the inside bolt which is mainly the offender has a stud instead of bolt and its stretched and with the bigger manifold access is nil really . The bolts are 75mm as opposed to your 50mm bolts. Don't worry its back f ing tight and a duralok nut for now. Have to say mind I did have the bolts wirelocked with its last turbo and as far as I know it never came loose, wouldn't know its had a bit done since then. With its application now essentially the turbo needs to be taken off or dropped heaps for a new bolt or indeed a new Stud. I cant agree more with a bracket mod mate, at the end of the day its vibration and heat that's the cause and the puny wee bracket they have doesn't cut it. Ive seen normal untuned bolts loose so its not only happening to the ones that get thrashed.

The were still tight when I took them out Jimmy. No way to swap that stud for a bolt with the manifold on, unless some clever dude comes up with one that has a UJ in it.

Page 18 refers to the effects of heat, there's lots of factors at play, expansion of the turbo/manifold and bolt. Peak heat experienced. I would suggest that most of the bolts used aftermarket, will not be tolerant to the heat these see. Although the bolts would work until the cows come home, under almost any other situation expect for holding a turbo on.

From some limited reading, welding the bolts is probably just as bad a process as any. That would alter the properties of the bolt too. maybe not enough to cause an issue?

This would have to be the reason the manifolds are now part of the turbo. No gaskets or bolts to fail.

I don't like the idea of welding the threads.
Maybe using the bolts and nuts with a tighter thread fit would eliminate the problem.

Ha nice to hear my wirelocking held up anyway its not magic but luck. Its heat and vibration, simple that's why I like the nordlocks. But I must agree with Eddy with the bracket upgrade, to beef that up would make the world of difference imho. Me id be heading that way. Yeah Gav that stud even with my pants on the outside is impossible lol. Its tight now, durlok nut on the stud and 12.9 bolts, will def try Norlocks and be right into looking at beefing up the mount , seeing as this thing wont be in traffic much :p

                Hoyhoy.

The only thing is that it might be awhile before I get back under her.
