  • Loose turbo bolts solution?

Looking through the forums it seems that the turbo bolts on the 1.8t are an issue.

There have been a couple of threads that I found but it seems that no one has found a viable solution.

Searching through the internet I found this link that seems to offer the solution:
VWVortex.com - big turbo bolts that wont loosen/back out

The two solutions that seem to work are either:
Permatex Muffler & Tailpipe Putty -113G - Supercheap Auto Australia

    or:
Imports Locking Turbo Bolt Kits | Locking Bolts

Has anybody found a solution to this as the threads are pretty old.
Seems as though $10 for the muffler putty could be a cheap fix!

    Are yours loose ?

    I havent had any problems

If your getting a new turbo, you shouldnt have to worry anyway (for a while)

      No mine aren't loose yet.
Waiting for the turbo kit to be delivered so install should be in few weeks.

The original threads are pretty old but it seemed like a common problem even on cars with low kms.
It seems to be a common problem so I wanted to do the install properly.
Especially if the fix only costs $10. (if it works)

TIP dosent fit as it is designed for a MK4
Manifold is rough casting and too hard to fit
Washers for oil lines etc are wrong

Thanks for the constructive info. I'll check it out before the install.

Sort of drifted off the topic haven't we.
If you've got some construtive info about Frankenturbo installs
why don't you start a new thread. It could help anyone considering it.
To be honest your'e coming across as condescending.

Didnt mean to sound condescending, just it is a cheap kit, and it is funny, the guys who helped me install it are still laughing lol, espicially at the instructions.

The manifold is shi*e, i left the standard one on, the washers are the wrong size, so it will leak oil. I had to use the bottom half of the Frankenturbo TIP and the top half of the Forge TIP.

I think if you took it to someone to install they might throw it back at you. More suited to the DIY person.

But at the end of the day, it works and with a bit of tuning it works well

Cool. Thanks for the info. Still haven't decided who to fit it for me to be honest.
Any suggestions that are reasonably priced in Sydney.
I have my local mechanic who is pretty cluey as a backup but not a VW specialist as such.
How long ago did you do your install?
Sort of hoping that they've updated the kit since then, but not relying on it.
What was wrong with your manifold?

The manifold is very rough casting, Lucas told me not to use it, incase a little bit off the rough surface comes off and goes into the turbo, then again, i might have got a bad one.
It is also hard to get all the bolts on as the runners are very fat.

Go to VW and order some OEM washers for all the oil and water lines etc. We found out the hard way as one of the Oil line washers didnt sit right and it leaked oil. So a 80cent washer means we had to pull it all off .

it took us 2 days with 2 or 3 people

I would try to take it to a cheap machanic, as i think they are more likley to play around with things and dont mind taking short cuts and cutting TIP's etc

Found this link for the manifold install. It seems to indicate that the newer kits come with different size nuts to compensate for the larger manifold:
                              CBTuning.net - Frankenturbo F4t exhaust manifold install - YouTube

That sort of sounds like my mechanic. Thanks for the tips.
I have got lots of handy install info from your build thread
