Oh there were a few threads about a bad batch of them that were throwing seals i think, i researched them before i went frankenturbo. I have not found one thread about a frankenturbo blowing etc, but the manifold that comes with it is crap

Is it possible that it has smoothed out the power delivery by not spooling up so quickly (so you don't get a big wack of torque with the fast spool of the K03) and then continuing to make power further up the rev range (where the K03 runs out of puff)?

          pure speculation on my part...

That would be correct, but i still never really have to rev it out.
Dont really need to use the little bit more top end it has, but it does feel strong mid range

I can't remember your supporting mods at the time off the top of my head, but would you say that fitting a high-flow HPC-coated ex manifold would give a comparable power increase to a K04 conversion?
It would be interesting to put the costs of your modded K03 route (at the time of your dyno results) v. the K04 conversion to see the price/kw comparison. I remember reading your thread thinking it sounded like a great mod for how well it's been reported to drive.
Yes mate, and I also believe I will have the highest torque figure of all the polo's at the moment because of it. It was about $350 at the time and $300 for the chrome HPC plus fitting which I can't remember sorry. It's was actually cool to touch like it had been cooled in a fridge for a bit.

To me dyno figures quoted individually have no meaning. 3 or 4 cars on the same day on the same dyno is what counts.

I have seen (in the presence of at least 3 other K03 Polo GTIs) 2 x K04 APR Polos on the dyno. 1 with minimal extras except for the K04 making 145kw atw and 1 with exhaust and FMIC making 152kw atw. On this day a Stg 2 K03 Polo with extra goodies made only 137kw atw .....

The 145kw atw K04 Polo probably had spent all of $3000 to make that power. Most of the K03 Polos making close to that have spent a fair bit more than $3000. My Polo makes a solid 140kw atw and I have spent at least $5000 to get that far .....

So while some of the K03 Polos are approaching K04 power, the amount of $$$ spent is more ..... Go K04 and add some extras and 160kw atw is not impossible .... No K03, no matter how tuned (or by who) will even get close.
That was the same day, same dyno, same operator and temps mate back to back. I just went back to the same place after to see what I gained with the correct rated spring and so did the other APR with K04 when he changed his FMIC.

I would be so keen to jump on the dyno with Guy. Anthony - next Saturday (or any Saturday) would be awesome - heading to Jimmy's on Wednesday for some fun bits so it would be interesting to see the result on the dyno.

                        !
Not disputing your power Ant, it's more about what you have spent to date to make similar power to the K04 .... Point is if you did all that work and had a K04 where would you be? Close to 160wkw, I'd bet ......

Yeah sorry you're right mate! I have spent a bit for sure, so it would be close in the end. 160 would be very nice if only that damn ebay hybrid friggin fit

FMIC and piping is the only one that will really make a difference on the dyno, but also S3 brakes and some other little handling bits. Really looking forward to it. Will follow it up with some exhaust work (DP mainly) and some lighter wheels hopefully.

Love that there are so many Brisbane Polos keen to get together for something like this.

I think I pulled a 138 on my last run ages ago, but the torque came in late.

The most expensive thing on my Polo was the APR tune, if I want more boost I feel moving away from APR will be the outcome, any which way.

To be clear, my car is strong. There is nothing strictly wrong with it, but I'm going along with the feeling that I want my Polo to always feel like it does on the good days. Sometimes it seems lacking, logging it revealed nothing wrong, I put it down to the adaptive tuning which needs to be worked against.

Unsure if this is a bad expectation...
Happy to loan my car to the right tuner to confirm / disprove whatever they like, as long as the Polo comes out better from it.
