Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Clicht Build Thread

    Hi All,

I decided it is about time I started keeping track of my build...

As a background, I bought my car new in 2009 (Polo GTI). And after modifying numerous cars, I decided to keep this one stock.

I had a nippy little 1.8l Turbo, and this was OK. However after a while , I decided that it did indeed need a slight power increase. So after a bit of research, I went to Volkspower for an APR flash....and wow, very good. I especially liked the way you could hear the turbo spooling all the way up to the red line .

But now the car needed beter airflow in, so a BMC airbox was just what was needed....ah, this was beter.

Next it was time to get a beter DV. Again after some research I bought the Forge 008 DV...excellent quality, very impressed.

A while later, I decided to get the forge TIP and IC pipe, just for good measure -- although I have not yet fitted the TIP, as I have heard that it is a B**tch of a job. So I will have to get this done soon (by GolfMan /Tim hopefully ).

Next come the n75 race valve, and although I was a bit apprehensive with this, it did seem to make the car feel slightly twitchier.....

Post that onto some coilovers (FK highsport), and they are excellent...great bang for buck . Although I have got a knocking noise from the front "sway bar ??" , and have purchased shortened links from noone -- still to be fitted.

I have just placed my order for a new 100 cell cat dump-pipe from BlueFlame...it is one of the only 3" pipes that I could locate. Hopefully will be delivered in the next few weeks, and again GolfMan/Tim time

Now I need to get some new rims; been looking at the lenso's....they look great !!!!!, however it seems only tempe tyres in Sydney sell them, so may need to take a chance and buy without going to look at them.

One issue, my turbo has stretd making a wierd sound, like a buzzing osund on spooling...although a few persons on this great site have mentioned it is most likely the turbo bolts , so this will need to be checked soon...

So thanks to all of you for getting me started on my car again ....

oh, meant to also add that I had my car dyno'ed at Melbourne Performance centre, after the airbox and flash and it did 119kw atw...so a start.

    Nice progress mate.

Lots of little bits to make it all come together, the forge short shift is a great one for making it feel racier.

Just installed my stubby antenna -- looks beter

I have also removed my front fog lights, to get more airfow to my IC...I am waiting to hear from JMac on costs for the Seat IC, as this may be next off the ranks.

I have decided on which RIMS to buy -- going to stick wth my orginal view, namey the Lenso type m black with red line (17"). Tyres will most probably be 205/40. I will most probably be sticking withthe 17" rim, although it would be great to get the 18". However I am concerned that the 18" will scrape, especially once the car is lowered.

If you didn't have your heart set on 3" the Milltek DP prices have come way down because of the new Polo GTI. Awesome GTI in the UK have some good prices to check out!

                    Cheers.

Just had my new 3" Stainless Steel DP with 100 cell high flow cat fitted. Very good quality, and fitting. There is no drone at low rev's, but once accelerating, you get a very nice rough'ish sound...not too much, just a little tease
The cost = $845 including fitting - not bad in my opinion.
Now I need to push the car a bit more and see how it feels. From my little drive, it seems to rev a lot beter at high rev's > 5000, and pull strongly until the red line.

I have also just placed my order for a genune bosche 3" MAF; complete with housing for $245 landed

BTW: still waiting on the lenso rims (almost 6 weeks and counting, but apparently they are in customs now).

                          HI Guys,
I thought I would put up two pic's; they are a bit old....the first is of my car, post a bit of lowering, and the second is a dyno chart of when I had just copleted my APR flash and BMC filter.

I will take some newer pic's soon.

                            Engine bay looks much cleaner
