Possible Causes
Intake Air System leaking
Oxygen Sensor(s) and/or Oxygen Sensor Control faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Intake Air System for Leaks (False Air) - Will get the car smoked for leaks
Check Oxygen Sensor(s) and/or Oxygen Sensor Control (all of them!) I'm sure it's this!
•Added 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat with spacer to avoid CEL
•CEL shows up 60 kms later.
•Turns out the spacer is facing to the rear of the car. Switched to face towards the front of the car (drivers side) and clear fault code.
•CEL shows up again 80kms later.
•Disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, unplugged the MAF, reconnected everything again and checked the exhaust bolts.
•CEL shows up 262kms later.
Car awaiting to be looked at on the 24th March. Going to be smoked for boost leaks and a check over again. May be running to lean or to rich, for gods sakes, I have no idea.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a downpipe with CEL and has just left it?
Also, when you turn the ignition on, am I right in saying the engine light, handbrake light on and (forget the other light, I think EPS) stay on once the other lights switch off..?
Update
For some reason, and if you've had this issue before, please chime in...
Under hard acceleration and revs above 2,500rpm, the CEL never comes on. Always about 100kms after clearing the code, if I drive below 2,500rpm (generally in 4th gear) the code shows up on the dash.
Would logic tell you that if you're cruising under 2,500rpm, the air flowing through the exhaust system is not reaching the post cat sensor due to the spacer placing the sensor further from the exhaust? Therefore, the ECU reads a CAT deficiency or Bank 1 P1176 error code.
I think it's now time to start some logging. Can anyone in Sydney help me out here in terms of VAG logging and seeing if the sensor is infact no longer working properly?

Would anyone know if a VOLKSWAGEN POLO 2007 MATCH 1.6LTR o2 sensor would be the same as our Polo GTI? Any alternatives other than VW factory stock...

Cheers
The one for the GTI is specific, the pre and post ones are different. 1K0 998 262Q is listed as the new replacement on my ETKA.
That's not to say the aftermarket don't make a generic one that will work in a million different vehicles. ie The one with the longest lead will fit all the others, where VW go to the trouble of making them with the right length for each model.
Good question, no I haven't. From your experience have you heard anyone with a larger downpipe running no spacer with no CEL?

Is it possible to differentiate between pre and post cat o2 sensors?
The reason I'm asking is because probably the fabricator mixed up the o2 sensors. Front to rear and rear to front. If there is a way, can someone let me know?

The forward one is part number 06A 906 262 DK and the rear one 06A 906 262 DL
