Haven't been around on watercooled for so long now I've got half of you guys on facebook after DS in Jan! But thought I'd write an update on what I've got planned for GAD in September considering I haven't done anything for so long, because I barely get to drive my own car anymore.

    Coils (bought)
    New Clutch (bought)
    KO3s (bought)
    Custom Code
    Custom DP
    Forge TIP (bought)
    Forge TB>IC Pipe (bought)
    Forge Splitter Valve

And a few things I'll leave secret - nothing solid yet, but I'm working on a few other things

I need to talk to Gav about it - getting the K03s installed with the new clutch and I'll get a custom DP somehow (still looking into that one) and then let Gav work his magic...I've waited over a year so far so a few more weeks shouldn't be too bad

Just ordered some MKV GTI coil packs with INA 2.0T>1.8T adapters - there's people who've gained more than 15whp by doing this, just thought I'd give it a crack considering how cheap it is.

I'd be keen to see that checked out on a dyno. Not saying it can't be done.

Years ago Splitfire claimed a 10hp gain for some of their sparkplugs on a 1.9 205GTI. Not surprising though when you saw the plugs that came out, you could have measured the gap of the old ones with GPS.

I'm interested too, realy not a bad price for all new OEM coil packs and they look really nice as well. Even if I only get 4 BHP and slightly better fuel economy, it'll make my engine bay a little nicer to look at

I can't see how they could add performance over coil packs that are working well. It's adding a spark, not fuel or boost, so... Would love to see another place to add a few kw.

I'm pretty sure the 15hp gain is on big turbo applications. Like 500whp+. In this case it just gives the necessary spark required for the application effectively giving back the lost 15hp.

I just want to trial it - think I'll be the first in Australia with one of these mods and possibly one of the first with a BJX trying it - haven't found any Ibiza or Polo owners overseas trying it. It could end up being nothing more than fancy bits of red paint and a signature reading 'MK5 GTI Coil Packs" or it could make a noticeable difference. Who'd know if no one tested it And anyways our cars are getting on a bit - adding newer, more reliable OEM parts should help in one way or another.

Where'd you get the coilpacks & adapters from and how much where they, NP?

I remember reading about this somewhere, but pretty certain it was on a Mk 4 1.8T 20V...

Got the same coil packs/adapters on the way.
From what I've read they run a hotter spark than the 1.8T coils.
A lot have been running them with 0.40" gaps and claim smoother power delivery and better idle.
I'm curious to see whether it's just a placebo effect... I have a suspect coil so ordered these as replacements. If there's any power gains it will be a bonus, but not too bothered.
