yeah, i realise they think its normal, but if they get enough complaints, maybe they will look into a fix...haha...heres hoping. And BTW, something so noisy and irritating during regular use that i switch it off should not be normal and is, imo, unsatisfactory for the brand of car i'm driving.Last edited by MINTpolo; 14-08-2007, 10:33 PM.06 Polo GTI

Annoying a/c
Hmmm... I know there is a certain aura around brands like Volkswagen which suckers us into thinking its a prestige brand,Originally posted by MINTpolo View Postimo, unsatisfactory for the brand of car i'm driving.
But please remember, its spanish built, and whether we like to admit it.. the polo GTI is a CHEAP car.
Overall im extremely impressed with the amount of gear they have shoved into this lil pocket rocket.
Noisy aircon is no big deal to me !
happy motoring

well, i wasn't suggesting prestige, i was suggesting well engineered. The polo is assembled in spain and the components come from all over. I can forgive rattles and squeaks because thats what i expect of Spanish build quality, but a poorly designed/noisy a/c compressor is a bit different.06 Polo GTI

I read in the instruction manual of my old Civic 02 VI Hatch that I was to run it for 10 minutes every week or so during winter, just to keep things running.Originally posted by Flaps View PostOh wait I know now why I haven't heard it. I never use my A/C unless its 30+.
Hate doing it in the Polo, the thing sounds like someone being choked.

No whine here from the A/C, and I was listening for it.
The recirculation function on the unit does make a bit of noise, but that's pretty par for the course in all the cars I've driven. People with the whine - do you leave your recirculation on too, or are you using the A/C without the recirculation?

AC without recirculation.Originally posted by Wand Weaver View PostNo whine here from the A/C, and I was listening for it.

if the AC is off, with just the fan, the whine goes away

I can't hear this whine from the A/C either. Drove to work this morning with stereo off and A/C on to try and hear it and I got nothing. Really no real difference between on and off for me.Originally posted by Wand Weaver View PostNo whine here from the A/C, and I was listening for it.

hmm. it looks like this may be just the earlier batches that have them then... Will have to get VWA to fix it when I have some free time...Originally posted by ACTGTI View PostI can't hear this whine from the A/C either.
