Annoying Air Con...?

Hey,
So i have this problem that i don't know whether it's "normal" or it's the car. So, I have always wondered what this "whinning noise" is that gets louder when the rev goes higher, (until the engine noise surpass the whinning noise). Normally i can cope with the noise, but these few days, i just felt like listening to the car's engine sound, but this whine just pisses me off. It goes off when the air con is off....It also makes the water running noise.....

So, does yours do that???

Yea mine does that. It annoys the absolute Sh*t out of me. It drains the engine power something bad and I damn near have to floor it to take off on a hill.

I haven't noticed this to be honest - but what I have noticed is a very appreciable increase in fuel consumption with the A/C on.

By the trip computer, the increase lies somewhere close to 1.5-2.0L/100km. That's huge, given I'm getting around 8.0L/100km with it off - about 25%

thats the wonderful thing with 4cyl and air con... always drains the power... you dont notice it in an SS or xr8

I also get this noise, and yes it irritates the s..t out of me too, i told the dealer about it at the last service and they seemed to think it was all pretty normal.

Hay speaking of falcon/commodore owners. Last night a stoner in a white XR6 Falcon pulled up next to me. young bloke driving it, young bloke in the passenger seat.

driver puts his window down and calls out to me....

Driver: "Hey man, thats a nice car''
Mitch: *suspiciously* ''Uhh thanks ''
Driver: ''Is it your Missus car???''
Mitch: You wont think that in about 15 seconds

Haven't noticed the Air Con noise myself, will keep a look out for it.

And I find it funny when I read forums / hear people think of the Polo, or others such as the XR4 as a 'girls' car. Its pretty obvious that these people are lacking some size in a certain body part, and feel that a big car will overcome that deficiency

On topic, yeah the aircon is annoying as anything else in mine as well.
My bro had the option of climate control in Norway for his 1.4l TDI, and he's pretty happy he took it up. He hasn't said anything about funny noises in it. (Wish we had the option; I love the climate control in my Euro, it absolutely rocks.)

i'm another with the stupid whiny whirring aircon noises. I dont use it often because of it, really irritating and people i drive in my car think somethings wrong. It also seems to be getting more and more frequent. Gonna complain at service time.
