O.K. standard set up, but tuned up, slotted the originals, DS3000 pads, MBF fluid, backing plates cut down & ducted cooling, 3" at the front down to 2" hitting the dics.
Now not good enough for this pace.
I think this is quite an important point for all those people contemplating fitting oversize brake setups. It demonstrates that the performance of the original sized rotors and calipers is more than adequate in terms of stopping power, even when doing VERY fast laps at a race track. For street use, the original brakes should provide more than enough stopping power (perhaps requiring a pad upgrade).

I believe that Eddy has now reached the limits for COOLING not stopping power - please correct me if I am wrong.

Goodday Han, ya spot on 43mm offset factory wheels using 15mm spacers front & rear,
but in saying this I did have 10mm on the front with the stock camber, then went to -2 degrees & beefed it up to 15mm.
Just recently went to 205/50/16's & had to bring the rear down to 10mm.

P.S. These aren't what I use on the track, me change to 17's, with -3.2 degrees camber.
        Hooroo.

          Hoyhoy.

How did ya know, right on the mark, still stopping beautifully, just scary double pumping when doing those sort of times.

That now gives me a problem as to upgrading the brakes, I'm adament as to keeping the originals wheels, me like & it makes her a sleeper.
Brembo & AP Racing can't help me, if Alcons made a kit to suit I would have them tomorrow,,,,
          Anyone got an answer.

            Hoyhoy.

Bugracer, please don't get cranky at me for this thread has gone off your topic.
As I have done a lot of mucking about (which I like doing) to get these times
& when you do it with the stanard engine tune you'll be the grinner.
So keep it going & keep us upto date, hey.

Can you get a ceramic backing plate to help insulate the pistons from the pads?
And how many hot laps (or corners on a hot lap) before you get the fluid to boil at Wakefield?

                    Hoyhoy.

Its takes quite a few laps, there is a stainless backing plate standard to do some insulating.
Do you think that a ceramic plate will do a better job, where from & wouldn't it have problems of staying together.

A carbon ceramic plate should hold up fine and insulate better than any metal (though stainless steel is better than most). I'm not sure where to source some from - maybe ask some of the brake suppliers?
You may have to trim the pads down when new to make room for them, though

312mm ECS 2 Piece disc with a Wilwood Caliper may do it or you may be able to fit the Porsche Boxster (Not the S) Caliper underneath. That may fit under a 16" wheel.

                          Hoyhoy.

Thank you, but whats the quality like with the ECS two piece rotors, I have found that its hard to beat the OEM rotors.

Also have Jmac trying to do a deal with ECS as of last night so that he can do a better deal for everyone in Aussy.
I'm looking at the set up you are talking about using the Porshe Monobloc along with the rear up grade.
Me is hoping for a good outcome.

If you're going in October, I'll either be there spectating the Polo in action, or watching you in my rear mirror - lol!

No idea TBH, never heard any complaints but as far as I can find it is one of if not the only two piece rotor available off the shelf in 312mm. And yeah I was considering the same thing with the Porsche calipers and offloading my Audi TT Setup.

I've been contemplating the Porsche or Evo calipers myself. Originally I had other ideas but OEM calipers seem to be the best way to go and remain street legal. I haven't had a chance to hit the track since last year due to a funding shortage but I've spent a lot of time researching brake, sway bar and strut braces (of which I'm making my own). I've also been looking into a front air damn to create a bit of downforce and reduce the drag.

There are some great deals on Ebay for 2nd hand calipers and getting TT rotors is dead easy (I think DBA might even make a 2 piece).

Funds will be coming through shortly so look for Project Polo to be back out there soon.

p.s - If anyone likes the look of my strut braces I may well be manufacturing them after thoroughly testing them on Project Polo... AUTOsports Australia
