this just has a simple calculator for how much more outer and inner clearance a wheel will have with varying width and offsets.

I just lowerd her 35mm so if i get 17's that means it will sit higher no?

yes you'll sit higher unavoidable if you change up in wheel size, you can minimise it by running a smaller sidewall tyre but anything below a 40 will look stupid on only a 35mm drop.

So basically with35mm drop it will be back to normal height so then ide be looking at coilovers.... i can get that wheel in 16 inch but i think it would look tad silly

won't look the same your arches will sit closer to the wheel, actually 35mm is a pretty good drop for getting a 17" rim smack bang in the the centre of the arches some spacers to get you 5-10mm of poke and you'll look sweet and ride comfortably.

any serious drop you'll need coilovers even then only ones I've seen that go lower than 75mm are H&R ones

Thanks for all the advice people. I really dont know why VW didnt make the wheels 17 imo it would look much better.

Mate im running 17x8 w/ a 45 offset, than spacing back out to what would equate to; front 11mm spacer or new offset of 34, rear 16mm spacer or new offset 29, downfall is when you re-adjust coilovers to set low its hard to drive on bumpy surfaces, rubs everywhere, but looks the goods. now to drive it the it was ment to be driven I take it up 25mm rear and 35mm front, but now you can hit it hard and even brake harder,

Good luck finding those wheels... Generally Offsets of 32, 38 and 42 are OEM, there are lower offsets, but less common.

Changing the rolling diameter will change the speedo, etc. 40 profile is the correct match for 17's.

that depends on the width of the wheel

the profile is actually the percentage in millimeters of the tyres width

so a 40 profile for a polo will only keep the rolling diameter constant is the width of the tyre is 205. but nevertheless a 45 profile while seeming safer is definitely going to change the rolling diameter of the complete wheel unless its on a very narrow tyre

the trick to this profile business is to remember that what it means is that the sidewall is going to be the profile percentage of the tyre width so its got a relation and it isnt a constant measurement - it varies according to tyre width
