Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    What age vehicles does this apply too? I can no longer get into my rear (behind driver) passenger door, and the hatch back door is also a problem. I drive a Polo TDI 2008.

      TO BE CODED. CARRIED OUT CODING AND FOUND DID
      NOT FIX PROBLEM. CONTACTED VOLKSWAGON AGAIN
      AND FOUND RADIO WILL REQUIRE REPLACING ORDERED
      NEW UNIT AND WILL ADVISE WHEN PARTS ARRIVE.”

      On the 31/10/2007 the car was taken back to Nepean Motor Group to have the radio “supposedly” replaced however after this the original fault still remains.

      On the 12/02/2008 the car went into Nepean Motor group for a scheduled service and once again the radio was reported as still having the same fault, however the service department said they could not fault the unit at this stage.

      On the 07/03/2009 the car went to Nepean Motor Group for its 45000km service where I again advised service that the fault still remained with the radio and was advised verbally that there was no fix available for this model of radio as this was the lower end unit. At this stage I was not happy with this answer but felt there was nothing more I could do.

      On the 29/10/2010 the Polo went in for its 60000km service back to Nepean Motor Group where I again raised the issue for the radio changing stations on its own. The service department tested and advised that yes the unit was still at fault and would take this up with VW Head Office. I was advised at this stage that car was no longer under warranty and a good will request would have to be raised given that the fault had been raised since the car was brand new and never rectified.

      I have now been advised that if I would like this fault fixed I would have to pay half the replacement cost of the unit. I feel this is totally outrageous as this has been acknowledged by VW service staff on a number of occasions as a genuine fault.

      As you can see by the attached service records we have made every attempt to have this issue rectified under warranty period without success. I would also like to note that this car has always gone back to the same VW dealer for each and every service.

      I would also like to point out that this is one of four VW vehicles in my family.
      My father owns a 2009 Golf
      My Mother owns a 2010 Caddy Maxi Life
      My brother now owns a 2010 Tiguan
      And all of the radios work fine.

      I consider the Polo with the continuing issues of the radio and the fact that this has never been rectified as a black mark on the VW family name. I’m even more disgusted that VW would expect me to have to pay out of my own pocket to have something repaired that was clearly a warranty issue that should have been fixed in the first instance.

      Given the ongoing issues with this radio that have never been rectified I feel VW has no other option but to do the right thing and if they cannot rectify the problem with this model radio than perhaps VW need to consider replacing it with another model of VW radio that is not faulty at no cost to myself.

      If I do not get a satisfactory result to this issue I feel I have no other choice but to refer this to the Office of Fair Trading. I would hope that VW will do the right thing in regard to this matter as it may reflect badly upon any future purchases of VW family vehicles."


      VW response you pay half $600 and we will look at it.

      Just another example of VW Oz... can't trust the entire VWG.

        I don't get it, you've dragged up a post that was made 7 years ago by a member who made 5 posts about this subject on the day they joined and never posted again and from that you draw the conclusion that you can't trust VW?

        Have a look, you'll find many, many posts where VW have come to the party outside the warranty period.

          You don't need to get it... was just reading some old threads and some of the stuff happening all those years ago is still happening right now to others. Just because you believe there are many posts on where VW have done the decent thing... there is plenty of evidence of many people who have experienced the opposite.

          Not many people belong to online car forums either... as for 5 posts... and one day members... so their opinion is of less value than someone with more posts ?

          Anyway... don't bother answering... I don't care that much... it is my opinion and I'll stick by it.

            Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, not sure you're entitled to the overreaction to my expressing a different opinion.

                  mods: revo "stage 1" tune
                  car usage: daily, mostly short trips
                  odometer: ~166kkm
                  problem: electrical gremlins

                  * same intermittent power steering failures other folks mentioned

                  * same apparent "reboot" of the car while driving other folks mentioned — instrument cluster goes dark then lights up, (aftermarket) head unit goes dark then goes thru power up sequence

                  * occasionally get ESC and ABS warning lights

                  I normally have it looked after by a local shop close to home as I've found VW Sutherland and VW Village both love to waste my time and money on useless return trips, even when I say I don't need the car back that day (or week, even). Spending 2-3 hours and $100 on ubers/taxis getting the car to+from a shop when they haven't actually fixed anything and say "come back if it happens again" (another 2-3 hours and $100!) really pisses me off.

                  If you know a good VW specialist in the Hurstville area I'm all ears

                  edit: I should add that I've already spent way too much fixing this heap of junk and am extremely tempted to film it being crushed and enjoy the free space in the garage — but I'd rather get it sorted out and get at least some money for it

                  • If there's lights on the dash, even if they disappear, there's going to be a code stored.
                    Power steering is probably the fuse on the battery. They get cracks in them all the time. Cheap to fix .
                    Abs will have a stored fault for sure. Get the codes then we can help.

                      Problem-
                      passenger window stops working after 10 minutes
                      description-I’ve recently replaced my passenger window regulator and motor. The window will only work 10 minutes after the battery has just been plugged back in and only from the passenger window switch and not the driver side switch. After that there is no sign of the window working.
                      Problem- abs and traction control light on dash
                      description- the abs and traction control light are up on the dash, the code says it’s the front right speed sensor but I’ve replaced all of them and it still shows up with the same fault.
