I hope there is a 5 door option. I prefer 5 door for practicality and to me the 5door looks no better or worse than the 3 door. In saying that, it would be great if they could offer both so everyone would be happy!

Yeah - don't get me wrong. I have nothing against them bringing in the 5 door models of the Polo GTI/Golf GTI or Golf R. There will always be people that need it, and many people that just get it 'in case' - in fact, in Australia the 5 door is by far the most popular.
But 3 doors is the 'traditional' design and the genuine 'hot hatch' configuration - just like 2 doors is the genuine sports car configuration. To not give us the option of 3 doors is frankly just insane, since after all, the 'GTI' and 'R' models are meant to be 'hot hatches'.

Not rev over 3,000 rpm? What would be the point of the GTI badge then? lol

in my opinion (which counts for little) if a gearbox shifts Automatically its and Auto. I dont care if it has 63 clutches. It still actuates those clutches automatically.

DSGs are rubbish
It may be revolutionary but it is rubbish IMO.
Had a 118TSI Mk6 Golf DSG for 2 days this week.
Had the following issues ....
The pause is still there upon pulloff .... when you want to pull off nothing happens for about half a second, so you press harder down on the gas ... then all of a sudden it leaps forward, much, much more than what you wanted. Almost jerks your neck off ....
Going down hill in D it slips into D6 ... then as you want to go up on the other side .... it sits in D6 and nothing happens untill the car almost stalls ... it then decides ... OK D5 .... and nothing happens and the car almost stalls ... it then decides .... OK D4 etc etc etc untill eventually you have either reached an appropriate gear or crawled over the top of the hill ... in a manual you would have simply selected the proper gear and that would have been it. The position of my foot .... flat on it or not ... did not make any difference ...
Trying it out in S then to sort out the abovementioned problem .... yes ? .... NO ... in S it keeps the revs at around 3500 or higher at all times .... which is ridiculous when cruising ....
So you end up switching between S and D and the manually chosen gears all the time to "fix" the inherent problems of this "advanced auto" box.
Absolute waste of $2500 IMO ... I would have enjoyed relieving myself against a tree to the tune of $2500 more ....
If the GTI comes in a DSG only then I will never ... ever ... ever buy 1 again.
If it has a D for dummy or S for stupid then look elsewhere .....Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...

LOL! You crack me up, Sharkie, but you're spot on!
Here's the snow vid again, proper aspect ratio and some music -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw9HA-V9Jlg Love the stance towards the end .... so hot!
I've said it from the start, I really love everything about the new Polo. But this talk of no manual and no 3 door? I have to wonder if they're deliberately trying to cripple it so it doesn't seem like such a great deal.sigpic

Has anyone at any other Australian VW forum started a thread or petition or something that we can sign to say we want the 3 door models?

I drove the Golf for the first time in a while the other day, and the hesitation seemed better (6500 kms on the odo). You do need to drive a DSG differently than either a manual or slushbox, however.
If you want to drive a bad automated manual, find a Mercedes Sprinter van with the Sprintshift transmission.2009 118 TSI
