I don't want a psuedo-manual. I also cant see this car being any faster than the current Polo GTI after a chip in each.

I expect the stock handling to be improved.

Before all this heresay being thrown around about how manual will be missed, the lot of you need to go out and drive some good examples of twin-clutch gearboxes.

Launching, aggressive shifting, and even putting around town are MUCH nicer... and all you sacrifice in the process is the ability to do skids

I think we can all agree any twin-clutch or automated manual will shift infinitely quicker and cleaner than we ever could with our feet and hands. And these things matter on track, for sure

But for me, I just don't want a machine doing the job for me and pushing a button is never going to give me the same satisfaction as actually changing the gears yourself, getting the revs right and feeling the lever slot itself right in.

          Horses for courses I say

PS having said that, I have also driven a few $#!+boxes with shifts so awful (long throw, notchy and the feeling of uncertainly whether the gear stick is all the way in - a much-abused rental Fiat Brava I had in the UK springs to mind) I wish I had an auto even for a 1.3 litre. A good manual 'box is a joy to play with and thankfully the Pog's one isn't half bad.

Actually the delay that the DSG has upon takeoff means that a well driven manual will be off the line and gone by the time a DSG decides to do anything. This delay is a well documented fact (in the press) and I've yet to drive a DSG that does not have this problem.

Sure, the DSG shifts gears quicker once moving, but on 400m I reckon it would be a dead heat .....

The Golf R is supposed to NOT have this problem, so I may get a DSG R Golf, but if I were to buy a new Polo GTI it would be a manual ....

The manuals are also MUCH cheaper to fix when (not if) it breaks outside of warranty .....

Interior looks much nicer and the exterior has a much more aggressive look to it. I like it very much. Is an RNS510 going to be available as well?
              Cheers,

I like having a clutch. I'm not interested in the DSG being point something of a second quicker. I like the sound of them, there are a few R32 DSG and GTI DSG's near me, easy to tell when they change gears.

I prefer changing gears when I feel like it, the DSG does not know that I'm about to brake hard and cant help me use the clutch to take off speed.

I'm not dissing DSG, I'm saying I want a manual.

You do realize you can opt to have full control over shifts with a sequential box? You don't need to leave it in 'sport-auto' mode.

Ah, see I never knew that about the VW DSG box. My experiences have been an '03 M3 with SMG-II (which had launch control), and an EVO X (which also has launch control).

Both launched more consistently than I ever could with a manual.

Loving the look of the new Polo.

Will be interesting to take it for a test drive, just to compare it to the current model.

DSG has ZERO impact on the car's ability to do skids. It's ABS that stops skids from happening.

to be honest the manual gearboxes in the old gti's are frankly rubbish - they are using some rubbish technology and those crunches between 1st and 2nd never stop if you try to change briskly

i reckon the DSG is going to be heaven compared to the old GTI manual gearbox with which you have to try and change gears as carefully as trying to walk on a floor made of eggshells suspended above a snake pit full of poisonous cobra's ie very very carefully and gingerly which is a load of bollocks in a sporty car

the old manual gearbox is really really absolute junk whatever anyone says ..... that doesnt mean that they cant get it right but i think its just easier to just move on to the newer tech and forget the old rubbish stuff that they couldnt get right

                          From Drive's web site -
"The GTI's status as the most powerful Polo yet isn't likely to last, however. A Polo R model is expected in 2011 as part of an expanded line-up of high-performance Volkswagens."

                          A Polo R

Mine's fine. Has never crunched. Maybe luck of the draw?

..don't they stock Redline MTL gearbox oil in Durban SA? Get some and you don't have to worry about poisonous cobras any longer

New GTI will have the new 6spd manual that the 118TSI Golf has as well. Hopefully this is a much better gbox. Even though mine in my06 Polo GTI in 3 years of hard use never had a single issue.
