I wonder if it has less than 1 inch of water pressure drop? After much testing (but I must say, not all on VW intakes), I prefer to stick with the factory airbox and filter - and replace much of the other bits!

yeah... and you'd be right- check out tdiclub.com... those boys swear time and time again that anything other than the stock air intake setup, is sacrificial......

stick with what you've got, unless you go with a "dry paper filter media conical air intake" like greg roles etc on here... anything else will be a warm air intake...

sheesh, i feel ***king stupid for running my BMC oiled filter in my polo tdi (same engine)... im gonna replace it with the stocky soon...

p.s. no offense whatsoever to the petrol boys... when you delve into the rabbit hole, same size engines have very different characteristics when it comes to diesels.... (e.g. dump pipe = good, on petrol 1.8T vs. dump pipe = blow turbo sooner, on 1.9 TDI)

              cheers,

              scotty

Agreed, hence I've always gone with BMC and ended up selling them too. He He He

bmc = air filter company, cda = cold air intake, should be a few threads floating around about using the search option if your curious

Alternative is pod filter setup, technically illegal in NSW i think.
As long as its a dry filter and its got an enclosure, you'll be fine.

BMC is the company wich makes them.
                      CDA is Carbon Dynamic Airbox.
it's a Carbon cilinder shape box, wich houses the airfilter.
they use carbon because its lighter, and it conducts heat better as plastic or metal.
so you get optimal cold air flow.

verry good system, but it has a good price to...

Since it's sitting in the engine bay, won't it actually add more heat to the intake air, rather than less??

Like the stock airbox? Hard to get around, atleast if you plumb it correctly it's pulling cold air in

Ive been pro stock for moons, and against k and N and the likes due to poor filtration, yea the induction is better but filtration not so. Enclosure which has been mentioned here is paramount otherwise why have a filter at all?? What you want is an intake set up with cool stuff coming in, yes cones are good but not deep in the engine bay as you will draw in too much heat. The stock filter box in most cars are well set up for what they are but are also set up for noise reduction, so you can have a good hack at it with some results. Set up your intake so you get as much cool stuff in as you can and have some good filtration. Half assed jobs are no good with little or no benefits and the story goes you get what you pay for.

Stock one is so boring lol, and takes up too much room in the engine bay, need room for a catch can too
