i think that they are wrong - the Polo was released in South Africa in January - and you guys are getting it in April - so thats around three months behind

so you should expect the GTI around three months after it is released here in South Africa - and they say third quarter here for us

it also depends on whether you guys have right hand drive or left hand drive models and whether you will be getting the three door or the five door versions of the GTI

        Thanks for the replies.

Umai - Naa: Just visited McCarrolls Hornsby and they are heading out last week of April for the training so similar to your advice.

Sales person said they would probably see some info week prior to that, then hopefully find out at the dealer launch details on stock, pricing, delivery etc.

I left my details with him and will post pack any info I get (if someone doesn't beat me to it).

        Cheers,
        Chris

Just came back from NZ where they already have the new Polo, very nice looking car and much improved interior, no sign of the GTI yet though.

Did you get a chance to have a look inside the 5 door? Just curious how much space there is/ rear leg room etc.

A touch more room than the current model but not a lot. The interior is a lot cleaner design than the current model, much less fussy.

DSG only really annoys me, VWA needs to wake up on this as it would be the difference between me buying one and not and I'm sure there's a lot of others that feel the same.

Yeah, I have no interest in DSG at all...Manual only for me...

Yeah the lack of manual will be the deal breaker for me. Every time I see the pics of the new GTI I get thoughts of selling my near new GTI to get one of them when they come out, but I really don't want DSG

My mate got his in 06 with pretty much all the options for 35K with a corporate discount. All the dealers in I went to looked on the database and said to me that all they had was 4 doors, DSG some with sunroof and leather which just made the price further away from my budget. I tried to order but they said that they don't make the 3 door manual any more and it would probably be DSG, 4 door.

They had a Golf GT (2006) model sitting in the yard which I took for a test drive. Had about 36000km on the clock was 3 years old so I tried to negotiated on a price but they wouldn't budge. So I kept looking until I bumbed into a 2009 Polo GTI which I bought.

Sure I could've got the extended year warranty on the GT but the Polo already had the 3 years and I didn't have to pay extra, it wasn't preowned, leather, manual and a sick Shadow Blue colour. Another bonus was, it was within my budget. Sure it didn't have the creature comforts as the GT but with what I saved on the Polo gave me extra cash to do bits and pieces.

Don't want to start flame war but Golf GTI's have flooded the market and you can't turn your head without seeing one. And I agree they are the better car, but the little sibling can hold it's own. I've driven my mates Golf so I know how it feels but I love how the Polo drive. Like everyone said it's just like a go kart and it's very aesthetics. And down here it's far in between when you see one. So it makes it a little bit special.

P.S I couldn't wait for the new Polo GTi either I needed a car then.
You made a good choice even though I am a GT owner. The Polo GTI is more fun to drive IMO. Not as practical as the GT but if you don't need it, I'd go with the Polo GTI any day.

Honestly - I will be really dropping big hints to my wife that she would love the 5-door Polo GTI DSG. Can't get her into a manual. She's a previous Polo owner, currently in an A-class Merc (I hate driving that CVT auto!), so I'm pretty confident I can talk her into another Polo. I just want it to be a GTI!

I see VW Wangara (WA) are dropping hints in their advertising that the Polo is not far away.

What's with the reference to "MKV" in the advertising of the Polo, Dermott?
