    That's disgraceful.

I was going to say pretty much what Trent said mate.. Only with less swearing..

You really shouldn't have put up with that. Asking for their name and badge number shuts them up really fast.

if I was going 62 in a 60 zone, Im sure she'd be more than willing to waste 20mins of her time with paperwork

Don't ring the cops... acually go into the local station and wait until they make the call..

For the record, anything over $2,500 damage requires a Police Report to be filed!!

Don't take any $hit off your insurance company either, they love taking the money but hate to pay it back out again!!

My daughter got a bunch of crap from the insurance company when a neighbour backed into her car.

The "Customer Service" person she got on the phone told her she would lose her NCB and have to pay her excess.

She rang me in tears and relayed what the insurer had said - I calmed her down and told her to ring the insurer again. She did, and got a different person who said - no worries, you know the details of the offender, just bring your car down when it suits and we'll fix it. You are not going to lose your NCB and you don't have to pay a cent.

So, two suggestions from me -
            1. If possible, get another clerk in the insurance company and see if anything changes, also you can always ask to speak to the person's manager. I always do this when I encounter a numnut junior trying to give me the run-around, and it always works, but it always requires persistence along the lines of " with all respect, you are not helping me, I insist on speaking to your manager."

            2. If you fail to get anywhere, just hire a Private Investigator. I'm sure that obtaining an address for a license number and a name would be a walk in the park, and would cost you far less than paying the excess and losing your NCB

both great points, i'll be calling up my insurance company tomorrow to demand they waver the excess.

Didnt know any damage over $2500 had to have a Police report! Will get one sorted if my insurer doesn't back down

That private investigator idea certainly sounds like a good deal... I mean even if it costs you $100 less than ur excess, its still $100 in your pocket and it won't be hitting your premium.

Anything where panels are bent these days is over $2,500 with labour @ $100-ish an hour as a rule of thumb

or... you could also do what any normal person would do and get one of those things called a 'quote' before you file your Police report..
