Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Some non-STi WRXs sport the big wing too, though. The easiest way to tell is the larger-than-normal bonnet scoop and/or if you get a good look at the front, the covers over the fogs.

Another way to pick an STI is to watch the car jiggle on it's suspension when it runs over anything thicker than an 80gsm sheet of paper.

            What I don't love:
            1) Tiny, inaccurate speedo. The from as low as 80kph it gets even worse with the 2x scaling.

            2) Indicator stalk on the wrong side. Bloody Euro conversion gone wrong. I'm often missing indicating because of this, when needing to swap gears at the same time. The only right side for the indicator stalk is the one not occupied by your gear changing hand.

You get used to it though.

If it wasn't for the fact that I swap between two cars, then probably yes

See a friend on the road, flash your windsceen wipers at him...

Same here, I swap between several vehicles - gets real confusing if its raining and you're doing a turn, wipers suddenly on double speed and try to turn them off with the indicator stalk!

Yea people look at me really weird. I've given up and now I just flash the fog lights instead, I can't stuff it up then.

                      One thing I don't like....

The ground clearance. I know some of you guys have lowered yours with coilovers etc, but going into some driveways, even really slowly, I bottom out with a very resounding *crunch*.

It makes me cringe every single time. Thank god for unpainted, black skirts.

If your bottoming out a stock polo you have issues

                        Its rather high.

No because they both have XR5 and XR4 badges, and also the XR5 does not have the stripes as an option (least I don't believe they do). And the XR5 doesn't come as 3 door. I know what you mean bout the STI/WRX. I see it this way, the more bling the drive has, the more likely it is to be a STI

Either that or those driveways you are going up are mountainous.

Actually, it's neither. Usually, the driveways in question don't have a massive approach angle, but the kerbside gutter has an evil dip just before the actual driveway starts.

So, just as you think you're going to get over it, the front wheels go into the dip, and you get the crunch.

Let's put it this way - while the Polo's certainly not Lotus low, it's lower than an Impreza. I know this, because I used to drive an Impreza

Starting to see more and more Polo GTi's around the Sydney area I've noticed recently. I think word is getting around how good they are!
