Yeah i know all good, i am flat out and jumped the gun there, you are right i do need more hrs its mental, and i should have logged the boost like Ant says i just clear flat out ran out of time and more than likely dont have time before the dyno, just passionate about the thing , i realise that all you guys were doing was trying to help so my bad, im stinging to see how it goes and what figures it gets.
Anthony you are right you have done most of the research mate and cant argue with that, and its been a fun and sometimes rollercoaster ride to get it where it is, but its shaping up to be one of the best. As we know forums and what can be written on them can be blown out and mis read, i probably worded it wrong and my bad for that, i cant agree more about the praise given in this thread and many others, cant thank people enough and i take great pride in all of it and many others. So i apologies if it has all been taken wrong. Yo are right before i started my own thing i was working a crap job i hated, but that was only an in between job till i saw where i was going next, and i will clarify i wasnt only doing jobs in the back yard for the forum members, i had plenty other jobs i had been doing for folk long before i fronted up on the forum, and just to clarify before i did the "nothing" job which was my choice to get away from dealerland that you all gripe about, i had been working on production cars , in fact high end stuff like Porsche, Audi and VW, in fact i started in 1988 straight from school to VW/Audi and trained in VW HQ, so dont think that the "not working on production cars for that matter" statement really makes any difference, before that i served my apprenticeship in the UK with VW/Audi and was at that dealership for 10yrs odds, did my factory training in Milton keynes VW HQ, and worked on Aircraft for 5yrs, worked at Porsche,VW and Audi here most of time ive spent here in Aus with exception to 3 of that being with Boeing, so only had the Non Euro or production car job for around 12mnths , so not overly sure what that statement meant , i have 24yrs VW and Audi experience just to clarify, and i think that is a fair bit s, and knew i had to get back at it as you are right i was more passionate about that than anything else and thats half my battle and yep you are right im too busy now so maybe have to think about next stage, we have talked abut that many times too. Time will tell suppose.
Back onto the important stuff, lets see how this thing goes on the day, looking forward to it.

    Cheers

Can't seem to hit the sweet spot with the extra power The goodyears are a great all round performance tyre but are a pretty hard compound and not very sticky at all especially at 38psi. The best 0-100 time I’ve logged with a heap of wheel spin and cold tyres is 6.2s so will have to practice.

Ben, no mate no retune done yet. Gavin and I did some logging just before the intake, reg and MAF went on so we are keen to do some more this week to compare the airflow and do some math. He said the increased volume of air should be directly proportionate to the power increase or something like that.

Do I think I have 197.5kw atw....... sadly no although the car does feel really bloody quick atm. I have driven tunes polo’s with K04’s and they aren’t nearly as wild as the Devil feels at the moment. Don't forget the pulls are done in 2nd gear so ratios are way off compared to 4th which should give the closest to 1:1 ratio. Just didn’t feel like going to jail before Christmas by revving out 4th on a public road.

Also I’m yet to play with all the other correction settings the G-Tech has to offer such as drivetrain losses, differential and rolling resistance losses, aero dynamic losses such as frontal area and coefficient drag. And then of course vehicle and driver weight. I just ripped it out of the wrapping and went for it so when I have some spare time I will dial everything properly. Still glad to see an increase anyway.
Hi, did you end up getting your vehicle weighed and playing more with the gtech? Given the upcoming dyno runs with Guy, could be an opportune time to try calibrate against the APR dyno. I'm going to try get out today to do some HP runs. Will use vehicle weight of 1180 and thinking 10% drive train loss would be reasonable (though is purely an assumption). Will look closer at the gtech recommendations and alter accordingly.

I should have lap timing sorted for next weekend, if you're staying around shortly after, ill bring a laptop computer and check out the data.

            • Howdy, nah never found a place to get it weighed. I think you have to add the drivers weight also to the total vehicle weight, and its closer to 15% drive train loss I think but hopefully we can confirm that for sure at pog wars! Will hopefully have time to look over your times, just have to fly down to Melbourne that afternoon so not to sure.

Quick update. Went to the downshift meet yesterday which was pretty sweet because we rolled in with about 20 euros all looking pimped. Certainly turned some hardcore JDM heads Unfortunately not many professional shots have been uploaded of us yet which sucks as I wanted a few to showcase jsn78's stella detail and paint reguvenation job. But found this one by bwoody, cheers mate!

Also thanks VWthunder for the valve cover. Just finished painting it now for Jimmy to put on for me next week at service time!

Having to rethink my next move when the turbo is ready as I'm a little worried about adding anymore torque into the mix. They say our rods can only handle 300hp and 400nm at the crank so I'm right on the edge atm with 375nm atw. And its the torque that will bend your rods. Its big money getting a engine forged to handle bigger power so not really sure what to do because if I had the engine out I would want to do the gearbox and diff to save on labour but that's another 3g's in parts alone ontop of the rods, pistons blah, blah blah.

              • I went out for a quick play this morning, will raise a thread in the discussion area (guess that's the appropriate place). The figures themselves are pretty useless atm (ie not consistent) as I need to calibrate better and as I struggled for traction till 4k rpm, bearing in mind the roads are wet and running 40psi. Having the software is extremely helpful too. I'll chase up the Tesla guy re the cost to upgrade to rr version, from my limited playtime, it is worth the added cost for the improved interrogation ability.

Now back to your power problem

                • No worries mate, cheers! Its also hard to find a completely flat road also. RR version is the way to go now Happy Laps have become a regular thing (thanks Clay!)

                  • hey mate, valve cover looks great, has inspired me to clean mine.... or i could just put the engine cover back on. If you're after pics from downshift there are threads up on downshiftaus.com and boostcruising.com with a tonne of photos in them, i cant find any of my car though, maybe they didnt appreciate my 'my family' stickers. Also kinda wish you didnt turn left at those lights

                    • Thanks mate, had a look at the hundreds of pics and facebook galleries and found nothing of our cars guess the JDM scene is still jealous of real craftsmanship. I think I mentioned I saw some awesome starwars type family stickers for the win!

I was behind you when you gave it the beans and have to say it's a MISSILE Jason and I are heading out to drags in three weeks time on the Wednesday if you can make it?? Would be sweet to see what you can make down the quarter!

Anyway thanks to Jimmy for a quick tune up and fixing my damn boost gauge also. Plus the red, black and blue colour scheme is almost finished

Have a very nice new intake manifold on its way soon which I will give the black treatment also to finish things off. Then working on a braided line change over and getting a set of those Samco coolant hose pack. Going with a different catch can set up as well which will get rid of those very blue hoses (bit rice I think)

maybe if we add some sticker bombed and matte black panels we'd have more JDM cred, oh and dont forget zip ties to hold our bumpers on! (jokes, i actually love jdm... when done right)
id love to go to the drags mate but being a hospitality manager its hard to get a wednesday night off! plus with my launching skills i dont really think i'd get a great time.

If you know a private quarter mile stretch you can use my gtech timer. Can also practise launching, etc. Anthony has one too so at least comparing times from the same unit.
